Can you eat too much and not PB or get stuck?

Recommended Posts

Since being banded I have not "PB'd" (or at least I don't think I have) or gotten anything stuck at all - not even once. There have been times, however, that I feel like I probably ate more than I should have. So my question is, as long as you don't PB or get anything stuck, does that mean you have not eaten too much or eaten too fast?? Can you eat too much ( to a point where you may stretch your pouch or cause slippage) and not PB or get anything stuck?

With only one fill, you have very little restriction at this point. That means that most likely everything you are eating is slipping right past the band. That is the reason you are able to eat more than you think you should. At this point, the band is really not working as it should. I wouldn't worry that you are stretching the pounch. I've had three fills now, and have had a few PB episodes, and lots getting stuck, but it's my own fault. I have to learn to slow down, take smaller bites and CHEW! I've done much better in the last week or so, because getting something stuck is a very uncomfortable experience. It's still a learning experience for you and me. I see that you were banded just two weeks after me. I'm in Dallas as well, but I paid a lot more than $9,500 for my surgery! Darn, I should have bargain shopped!

First, you will know when you PB....a mouth full of spit that you cant hold down...and have to spit out. As long as you are feeling OK while eating...no PB and nothing feeling like its coming up your throat you AND you are losing...you are OK. My friend is 8 monts post and have never PB and she is 80+ down....

Yes, definitely, but I dont think you can eat too much without feeling it. You may not PB or be stuck, but you will feel uncomfortable.

As long as you try not to eat until you feel stuffed, really full, then you'll be OK.

I've found out that after 4 fills.. I finally know what restriction is!!! And It's NOT a fun thing to find out... especially by accident.

I've also found out that macaroni & cheese is NOT my friend.

Give it time.. I now know what everyone has meant by PB and sliming!!!

Im so glad I came across this post.. I was banded 03/17/08 and get my first fill on Monday of next week..

My first week was no problem as I was so full just on liquids.. the second week I went to soft foods and just ate a little and was so full.. last week I was still on soft foods but noticed I could eat a little more without even thinking about it.. I measured my food and have been doing good.. I was getting so hungry last week.. this week is worse..

I cant wait to start getting my fills so this feeling will go away.. I have been soooo terrified that I have been stretching my pouch.. I am getting better at slowing down and taking smaller bites and chewing better, but sometimes I think maybe its still too fast or the bite is too big, etc.. Ive been so paranoid..

How much (in terms of volume) exactly, SHOULD I be eating? Right now I think I am averaging about 1 cup per meal.

i've have had 3 fills (6.5cc's in a 10cc band) and still am not restricted. No PBing, no sliming...and almost want it to happen so I know the band is working! for those of you who are at restriction, how many cc's do you have in what size band?

I'm not sure what it stands for - but I know it means to throw up your food. At least I hope that's what it means - or else I've been wrong for a long time!

what is PB?????

I just know the words...I'm not even banded yet...

I am so afraid that I will not have restriction like all of you are saying...UGH!!!

I also cannot wait for the restriction that others talk about..

I go for my first fill on Monday..

I am almost one month out and have lost approx 25 pounds so far but that was lost in the first 2 weeks when I was on the liquid diet.. it seems since I have gone to foods I am not losing..

I am truly watching and drinking a Protein drink in between so I dont get so hungry but I guess Im eating too much.. not alot, but I guess every bite counts.. I think because I have no restriction at this point that everything is just going thru the band and therefore I have no restriction.. I truly cannot wait..

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
