Not sure if I'm ready

:confused:I love to eat, I'm not a big drinker, I don't smoke, nor do I gamble or chase women around anymore. But dam I love my food. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Some people have a switch that tells them they are full, I do not. I eat until I'm full or over full. I was hoping the lapband would be my full switch. Is this an improper mind set? I've been fat my whole life. I've lost over 300 pounds in my life from one diet to the next. Now I'm so discouraged that I don't even try.<o:p></o:p>

Hopefully the lapband will help, please give me your thoughts and opinion. <o:p></o:p>

Well I haven't been banded yet 4/29 is my date, but from everything I know alot of which i've gotten from this site, is that it can be that switch in your brain. Obviously if you have a smaller stomach for sometime it won't allow you to eat too much. With that said in order for things to change not just the thing in your head to tell you to stop but the thing in your head that won't allow you to stop you have to do that. you have to decide you won't eat icecream or chocolate or thing that will slide through the band. YOU have to decide the things you will put in your mouth and that the band cannot help you with unless it gets stuck. This is a desicion that took me over a year to make and to make up my mind that I am ready to change my life, I won't be sitting on my couch munching on a sandwich and chips one year from now. I hope that you do the research and understand that this is a life change not just a helper with not gorging on dinner. I wish you all the best in whatever decion you make but just make sure you are educated first.

The band will help with that but the reality is....it's a tool and you need to work with it. If you're willing to work with the band and not against it, you'll be successful.

I'm sure you have a "full" switch, you've just learned to ignore it. You need to be aware of you eating and pay attention to the signs that you've had enough. You'll get it.

I never had the full sign either. With proper restriction you will get you full faster but if you don't feel it you will have to watch for your body's signals...hiccups, runny nose, sigh...etc. For me before I got proper restriction I went by the amount we are supposed to be able to eat. 1/4 to 1/2 a cup. I ate that ammount and then waited 30mins, if I was still hungry I'd eat a little more. For me I can say that my band being at restriction has given me that full sign, everyone is different though. You will have to start paying attention to your body a little more, but once you get the hang of it, it is not a big deal.

LapBand does provide me with that switch... as long as I eat the proper foods, and keep up with my fills. For instance, ice cream is my FAVE thing in the WHOLE world - better than sex even - and the band doesn't really sop me from eating that... it just slides right on through. So yeah, It is a switch, and its also not... It is a tool that will definatly help you though!!

I had surgery 10 months ago, and am down 98.6 pounds... so yeah. I love my band!

Hi E-glide

I realised the other day I will never be able to sit down and eat a few full plates at a all-you-can-eat Chinese anymore. That will be what I miss the most - tucking into all that good stuff and having buckets of rice too!

Anyway, my doc described it to me as, at the top of your stomach near the esophogus you have two receptors which food trigger the brain to feel full only when the food reaches that level. Now unbanded, this can be difficult as our stomaches are rather big and would need a lot of food to feel full. Once the band is in place, the upper part of the stomach (stoma) can only hold 1/2-1 cup so that you feel full much earlier than normal as the food triggers the 'full receptors' without much effort. This was the deciding factor for me!

When I get a fill (2 days woo hoo) I hope to have restriction and feel full for the first time in my life!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
