Hi guys.i was wonderig if anyone had a hiatle hernia before surgery and if that hinderd your surgery at all? thanks for your input guys:lol:

I had a hiatal hernia which the surgeon repaired during my lapband surgery. Now I am off of the Protonix which I had been taking for years. No sign of acid reflux at all now....love it!!

I also had a hiatal. It's really common for surgeons to find this type of hernia during Band surgery. It will need to be fixed - usually during your banding. The only thing for me was after surgery I had lots of back and shoulder pain. Nothing that held me back from doing anything, but just uncomfortable. This was probably due to the hiatal, mine was the size of a lemon. The back and shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery is a referred pain from the diaphragm. Which is where a hiatal occurs. But now I have no more reflux!

I also had a Hiatal hernia that was very large, which i had no clue i even had. No signs no symptoms nothing, but it was repaired during my lap band surgery with no complications.
