Kirsten700:

Congratulations. Please let us know how everything went for you on Friday.

I am disappointed to hear that Dr. Pinnar is not in network for any insurance plan. Still plan to attend one of his weekly seminars after the holidays to learn as much as possible about this process. Am wondering if I get the procedure done in Colorado with Dr. Kirshenbaum if Dr. Pinnar will take care of the fills.

Scout, I'm now 3 days out and feeling pretty good except I still have a sore throat from the anesthesia, and my port area feels bruised so it makes getting up and down difficult, but I know that it takes about a week to go away, so I'm not too worried. Everything w/Dr. K went so smoothly, I couldn't believe it! I flew home yesterday, and it wasn't too bad....

I think someone else on this thread said Dr. Pinnar would do fills if referred by a US Dr., but that he doesn't do fills for Mexican drs. I am planning on going back to Dr. K for at least my first fill, but after that may look for someone more local....

Good luck to you! If you have any other questions, let me know.

Be sure you have a local doctor lined up to do your fills BEFORE you have the surgery. With the Lap Band, after care is EVERYTHING.

I had my surgery on 2/23 with Doctor Pinnar at Reston. He is awesome, but doesn't accept much insurance. Reston is definitely close enough to Arlington though if you want to check him out. He has a website and I think his office is called WLS. Good luck!

I'm new to the board. I've started my preliminary work with Dr. Schirmer @ UVA. I have to go through classes and I can't even start till June 21st. I've heard good things about him. I'm very excited to finnailly be doing something about my wieght problem. I've dealt with it for my entire life. I'm ready for the long haul, I'm not looking for a miracle but a tool to help me learn how to be the person I have always wanted to be. I'm lucky my insurance will pay for band but I'll have to ask about fills and such I'll add it to my list! Have a great night everyone, Angie:p

Hi!!!

I'd love more info - I've just started my research, but saw your doc's name and wanted to follow-up. What kind of classes and how long do they last? How soon afterward do you have he procedure? Does he have a web page? Take care! sami

So glad some of you are seeing Dr. Pinnar. Both of them are just great. I happen to see the older one but have heard good things about his son Eric as well. The fill doc, Paul is so great. He is funny, truthful and I am more comfortable around him then almost any doc I have ever seen. If anyone is shopping for a band doc and Reston is close, please check them out!

I had my surgery with Eric Pinnar on 2/23. He is great. I have met Paul, but don't have my first fill until 4/10. I have been so impressed with the office, and the aftercare seems phenomenal. It looks like you are doing great with the weight loss, congrats!!

Thanks! Sounds kinda dumb, but I didnt cxare as much who did the surgery in thier office, its the aftercare that makes all the difference. I got a fill once a month until I was at a good place, never have that much of a problem getting appointments and feel like I am pretty close to being on the wl schedule I had set for myself.

So Gretchen, how did your first fill with Paul go?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
