Well, As most of you know from another thread, "has anyone taken band out", I have been a big baby and have taken advice from the "Tough loving people you all are."

I am sticking to the band as long as their is no SERIOUS complication. I actually felt restriciton ystarting yesterday morning. I was out to Breakfast with family and not even half way through my food I had to run to the restroom. I thought I was going to throw up. Instead, I just spit some slime out and took some deep breaths and was fine. I ate no more. Then for dinner a was able to eat more, but still far less than what I would have normally ate before the band.

Before when this was like 2-3 weeks new, I would get soooooooooooooo frustrated, angry, and sad, that I wasn't able to eat more than my band allowed. But for the 1st time yesterday, I actually felt SATISFIED. Not stuffed, and I could look at the food in front of me and not be tempted to eat more.

WOW, never thought that day would come. I actual boxed up my food yesterday and had the rest for breakfast this morning. What a $$$ saver. I think the band and I going to become good friends.

The gas was still painful, and I did a lot of walking at costco. But I noticed when I lay on my right side, it is torture. But if I lay on my left side, the pain goes almost completely away. Isn't that something?!

There is something that I remember from colon cleanses in the past that the doctor had said to lay on the left side to help the intestines push food through easier. So maybe that is true for the gas as well. Hope that may help someone else out there with gas pains.

I am sooo happy to see that you are feeling better about you band. I too find it almost impossible to lay on my right side. Thought I might be crazy LOL. Best wishes:)

isn't that funny. my right side is so much more comfortable than my left! (my port is just above my belly button...)

I'm so glad you are making friends with your band Norma!

Was the PB painful? They usually hurt me in the chest/throat. Glad to see you're finally getting the sweet taste of restriction. It's awesome when the band works, and we are both keeping ours :) big smiles to you.

Hey DeLarla,

Glad for you too!

The stuck feeling was very uncomfortable. I didn't throw up though. I was very close. Does PB mean to throw up? I am still trying to get used to all the lingo. And what does lol mean?

pb is a lot like baby spitup -- food that hasn't been digested yet, gets stuck and comes back up...sort of like throwing up.

LOL means laugh out loud

Hi Norma

When I PB'd it was exactly the way you described it. I leaned over and let all this slime come up, but It wasn't painful. After that, I stopped eating and felt better right away (smile).

Norma, you've been initiated! That was pretty much a PB. That means "productive burp" and refers to any scenario where something has to come up rather than go down. The relief is usually immediate. ;)

Whenever you have something like this happen, you want to stick to liquids for the next meal or two. The stoma and esophagus can get irritated and that can lead to worse problems, so a PB is a sign that we need to baby ourselves for a while.

But for the 1st time yesterday, I actually felt SATISFIED. Not stuffed, and I could look at the food in front of me and not be tempted to eat more. WOW, never thought that day would come. How wonderful to see you write this!! I'm so happy for you and your new buddy! :D

"PB IS A SIGN THAT WE HAVE TO BABY OURSELVES FOR AWHILE."

Alex, I think I need to paint this across my front door in big red letters. Thanks for the reminder.

I had my band put in on March 4 and was great for 10 days then the GAS MONSTER hit me like a truck and I spent about a week in misery. I got Mallox Max liquid and it has been the best thing I ever did. I love it! It has made all the difference for me.

Wow Norma! I am SO glad to see this post. You never know how folks will handle "tough love" and you have been such a trooper, and I'm glad you and your band are becoming friends. You can do this!!! And you have been initiated into big girl bandsterhood by experiencing a PB. You go gIrl!! I will be excited to see how well it continues to go for you.

Thank you for being an encourager to others, even during those times when you didn't feel so hot about things. You will no doubt be "put to work" some more here on LBT with your experiences and perspective. I'm so proud of you!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
