Day 2 post op - and oh the bloating!

Recommended Posts

oh my god ... I feel like I am getting BIGGER, like I am creating gas ....

the op went well, was in a little pain at the hospital, then sent me home with some instructions and Panadine ... I woke up this morning feeling like Veruca Salt in Charlie and the chocolate Factory, remember the sence when she bloats up like a big inflatable blueberry?

anyone feeling/felt the same and if so ... any throughts or suggestions?

Hi batkitty,

The bloating is perfectly normal unfortunately! I found it very uncomfortable, but it will pass after a few days. I took some pills called De-Gas and they helped get it through!

Congrats on getting a band, and I hope it all goes well for you!

Josh.

thanks Josh, you seem to have made great progress, tell me the discomfort gets better, I feel like all my insides are in the wrong place. and am finding it difficult finding a comfortable position.

Also I know I am hungry as my stomach is makeing all these sounds, the broth and clear teas however are not satisfying this (becasue I'm lucky to be able to get about 100mls down) thats when I feel like I'm making gas.

did you have this feeling?

The discomfort definately does get better. I didn't start to feel normal until about a week post-op. Don't worry - it will get better! We all go through a short time where we think 'what have I done?' But this will soon pass and you will feel great about being banded.

I didn't have any hunger for the first week post-op, I was forcing myself to drink liquids to keep my hydration levels up. I don't remember hearing too many stomach sounds though.

Let me know if you need any more help!

I know exactly what you mean Batkitty! I suffered with wind terribly. The peppermint tea tastes awful but the degas chewables do work ok. I found the best thing to get the wind moving was to get yourself moving. I walked to my letterbox and felt the wind move and did an awesome burp - instant relief! Also, sit up straight as much as you can.

Good luck!

thanks for the advise, tea is certainly helping as is moving, I can see you were recently banded, how are you coping now, have you gone back to work yet? and what are you eating ... these vegi Soups are not very successful, so I'm on the not so nutritious cup-a-soup at the moment.

Hi, I'm being banded next week - I'll make sure I have some peppermint tea and degas in stock :-)

Just a suggestion - but what about drinking the Meal Replacement shakes during the liquid phase? If you are feeling hungry, the Protein in them will probably help.

luscious, getting some tea stocked up will be a good idea.

The Protein shake sounds good too, but for me personally I can't stomach anything thicker than tea or broth, a Protein Shake wouldn't make it past first base.

good luck next week, where are you having it done?

Hiya,

I'm feeling about 95% now. Went back to work yesterday with no problems. I struggled for the first week but came on leaps and bounds every day after that. I'm having an Optifast shake for Breakfast, either 98.5% fat free cup a Soup for lunch or a banana smoothie and then same for dinner. Sometimes if I'm not hungry I just won't eat which I don't know is a good or bad thing. I might just have a Multi V juice box instead. My boyfriend made some nice Soups on the 2nd day in so we froze those in portions and just heat up when we want them.

I'll be stoked to get into mushies tomorrow.. Scrambled eggs here I come!

Yeah have been on fluids the whole time. I'm just reading Prof O'Brien's Lapband Solution book at the moment and he says to start working towards mushies after 7 days on fluids. Different surgeons do different things. I think the key is not to stretch the pouch so as long as you're not eating a cow, you should be ok. But I would check with your doctor first if I were you.

I'd say it's wind girl, I know what you mean about dying for a burp! Sometimes it just sits there, stuck.

I have walked and walked and walked .. or bent over my bed .. anything to get respite, the peppermint tea works well also, hot teas in general have helped me.

good work on the 13kg though!!! hopefully I won't be far behind you.

Hi Batkitty, sorry I missed your post (I was in being banded.. yay!!). I felt like it wouldn't come soon enough. I was banded at Royal North Shore Private - they were awesome, I was very well cared for.

The wind and bloating is indeed very uncomfortable. I can't manage to burp at all - so it seems to be making its way out the opposite end :-) Hopefully it will pass soon.

CONGRATULATIONS on the banding!!!!!! woohoo!!

the bloating reduces ... walk until you drop and hot tea, if you can bear it, bending over to relax any cramps is good.

I must admit I had very bad wind, but I am now 12 days post op and other than the wounds that I can still, feel I'm 100%!!

I have my first dieticians appointment Friday and with my surgeon on the 24th, can't wait for my first fill as this is starting to feel a little normal.

my next hurdle will be excercise, looking forward to getting on my treadmill!.

keep us posted Luscious, these are the first days of the rest of our lives!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
