Yaahoooooooo!!! Getting Banded April 23rd

Recommended Posts

Finally, after all the form filling, consultations, evaluations, tests, & insurance approval I have a surgery date of April 23rd. I'm going to be one of the first ones to get the new realize band at this hospital. I really have a good feeling about this. I think that the lapband will be the tool I need to finally lose this weight & keep it off for good. It's hard to believe that I'm excited about a surgery but I can't wait to get started.:scared2:

Hi John

Just wanted to wish you all the best for 23rd and just to say you will not look back. So many have said it but i will say it again the lap band is the best, years of diets up and down weight loss/gain but since the lap band just down hill. It takes some getting used to, old eating habits die hard but you learn quick with the band thats for sure.

Best wishes

Lisa

Hi, my name is Yvonne and I live in the San Francisco bay area. I'm 55, down to 233 from 246 pre-op and I'm really excited to get this done. I've been fighting obesity for 30 years (my absolute high weight was in 2000 when I hit 290) though I lost 40 lbs slowly in the last 7 years I have not been under 230 since 1978. I figured my weight was not a problem since I was pretty healthy otherwise until the last year and suddenly i have several health issues to deal with that could give me problems later on or even kill me way too soon.

I know this isn't a miracle cure but I feel the only problem I have is Portion Control as I am eating all the right foods, mostly.

I'll keep posting here and keep in touch. Thanks for all the great feedback and useful information.

Yvonne

Congrats, John C. My son,36, got his lap band eighteen months ago and lost 120 lbs in a year. He inspired, me and I hope to be banded in May. I know it is just a tool, but at our age we need all the help we can get.

Charlene, John and Yvonne - Welcome to a whole new way of life....a great, achievable, quality focused life!

You will all love being banded...it's not easy, it's not quick, but it does allow you to discover what's important, be accountable for yourself, and it gives us rewards that boost our confidence and self esteem.

Keep coming for support...this is a great group of people!

Cindi, Thank you for the encouraging words of support. The doctor said it would be slower, but for me, it would be a healthier solution.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
