Small Victories

Recommended Posts

I wanted to share my small victory today and ask if you'd like to share yours:

I sat down on one of my dining room chairs to tie my shoes today and realized the arms of the chair were not squeezing my hips! I actually fit comfortably in the chair. I could've cried. I didn't mention it to my husband who was standing near me because I just don't think he would have been as excited as I was about it, but I knew you all would understand.

Congrats on your small BIG victory! My victory came when I was sitting in my car and realized I didn't have to pull the seatbelt ALL the way out to buckle it. I actually have a couple of inches to spare now..Keep going and best of luck!

I remember the first time I rode on an airplane and didn't need a seat belt extender. I remember feeling the same way. Great NSV.

About a week ago I realized I could actually bend straight down to tie my shoes! I guess this is one of those "non-scale victories" that others talk about on here. Congrats- YES, we do understand, and Celebrate with you!!!

I recently looked down and noticed that I had crossed my leg like a lady, like I had years ago. I was dumbfounded. I hadn't even thought about it. It just happened. I was speechless and just kept pointing at my leg. My husband couldn't figure out what I was so excited about. When I told him, I got a big hug.

I hear ya, Julie! A few weeks ago I was on a flight and a woman needed a seat belt extension. It was a small charter so it took them 45 minutes to finally locate one. I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling her, in the kindest way, "have you ever considered lapband surgery?" I felt so sorry for her- she was humiliated! Does anyone else find themselves thinking "now there's a candidate for LBS"?

Pat:

I know what you mean about wanting to tell other big people about lap band. I wish someone had told me about it so that I would have known about it sooner. I think it would have been a bit embarassing to hear from a stranger, but it would have informed me. There's alot more press about lap band now than there was a year ago. I'll bet the commercials on tv have helped alot of people find out about it. I advertise too, because whenever anybody comments on how great I look I tell them that I got a lap band. But, like you I couldn't walk up and tell a big person about it.

Best wishes for your continued success.

Sue

I had a fun small NSV today......I bought a positively gorgeous sterling silver and pearl watch.....there's no give to the band and only one 'setting'....it's ALWAYS been too tight to wear......I noticed my rings were a little loose, so I tried the watch and it fit BEAUTIFULLY....laid right at the top of my hand like it's supposed to......so while I'm delighted about that....I'm like SERIOUSLY....I have an ass the size of Texas and I'm losing weight in my WRISTS....................but really, I'm very happy that the 15 pounds showed up somewhere!

*LOL* Watch it, Harleygirl!! Things really ARE bigger here in Texas! :) But I had to laugh because I had a similar experience with a ring that i never could wear because it was just a bit too tight. When my son had to take a link out of my watch band, I decided to try that ring and .. Whooppeee!! It finally fits! Isn't it funny where we seem to lose weight first? Congrats on your NSV!!!

Seriously though, MY ass is the biggest on this forum.. girl, it sticks out big time.. From the front I look pretty thin, then when I turn to the side. BAM thats when you can tell. lol.

My small victory was reached yesterday... I could fit into my old bodice that I use to wear to scarborough faire and faire starts next weekend. When I was able to lace it up and it fit me, I took a naughty pic of me in it and txted it to my hubby at work. Now I know what I'll be wearing for opening day! That dang pirate bodice!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
