Hey girls... haven't been on the site in a while. I have to admit I am still very discouraged. I thought for sure after this fill (#3) I would feel some restriction! The first few days I though so, but it turns out that I am still hungry all day and can pretty much eat anything! I feel the looks from the people who know that I had surgery and they are thinking... what happened! I have put 10 pounds of the 25 I had lost!! I am thinking about joining WW AGAIN... though I thought I wouldn't have to do that again...at this point I am wondering if I should have just had a GB!!! I know I sound so negative and that the band should just be a tool, but my tool is broken!!

I Hear what your saying girl. I 've had 5 fills. And not long after my 4th I could still eat a ton of food & was hungry a lot. I only lost 1 lbs last month (I could have done better w/ my eating though).

This time I'm pretty tight so I'm not eating too much because of that. I don't feel that hungry at all SO FAR. I'm hoping this one or next one will hit my "SWEET SPOT".

I know we all got the band because we have a hard time controlling what we eat. Untill we hit are sweet spot we do have to try to follow our plans we were given. I know it's hard when you are hungry. We have to hold on till we hit that perfect fill. :huh2: Hang in there it WILL come!!! :tongue2:

Hi All: was looking to see if there was a MA forum when I found this. I am going to get my surgery date assigned on Jan 8th. I need to ask you all if you would do it again. Sorry just a little nervous.... everyone says it is normal but was it all worth it:sad: Worried on so many levels...

HI!!

I have NO REGRETS at all! :huh2: I am so thrilled w/ my band!

Yeah, the first 3-4 wks suck but it gets so much better after that. I had my surgery 9-25-08 & have lost 30 lbs. It's a bit slower then some but I have no complaints at all. I don't even remember the last time i lost a good amount of weight. Everyone is starting to notice now & I'm starting to feel good about my looks again. You'll do great!! :tongue2:

Hi All - I have been doing pretty well since I spoke to you last but I am having a tough time right now. I have had been stuck since 7:30 pm, it's now 2:30am. I am finally drinking some hot tea after sliming, vomiting, and burping for hours. I had the keys in my hand to go to the Brigham but decided to hop online for some advice as a last effort. Hot tea, heating pad, and anxiety meds are helping take the edge off. I really did not want to go to the ER. I think it will pass.

ttyl,

Amy

Oh no!! I hope your ok now! I have gotten stuck but got it down within a minute or so. I could not imagine having that awful feeling for hours! :tongue2: I would go if you still have the pain now. Let us know what happends.

Hi everyone. Sorry I havent been around, work has been very very CRAZY.

Amy- How are you?

I had my fourth fill on the 15th, am now up to 8.1cc in my 14cc band. No hunger for about a week and getting stuck a bit more but overall feeling ok. no big weight loss but the holidays (and work) kicked my butt.

Next fill is on the 12th, but I am afraid to be overfilled and that I should just work on my eating plan more.

Next support group meeting is Tuesday Jan 20th 2009 for the Brigham (sorry dont have the Faulker date)

Hi Tiny!

I'm wondering how it felt when you had slippage? I don't think i have slipped but am a bit nervous. When I breathe deep it hurts a bit in my chest kinda pulls. Feels like maybe in my lung or I could have pulled a muscle. It feels connected to my band though. When food goes down I feel it too. Hard to explain . I'm so nervous. How did you know?

Hey there, Heidi. Hope you're ok.

I went to see Dr. Robinson today. Mr. Personality was very awkward when I ended up crying in front of him.....OH, my....not a comfortable situation, but that will definitely teach HIM to ask, "Is everything ok?" Yeah, it was BAD.....but I didn't get an unfill after all. I'm down 15 pounds in the past month so I'm told I shouldn't workout as much and to go out and enjoy the holiday week and EAT. Ha, ha, ha......So.....I'm all ready for our next meeting.

Hope you all had a great holiday. May 2009 be an even healthier and happy New Year for all of us. :) Hope you'll all be there on the 20th. :)

Heidi it sounds like you have a pulled muscle or irritated diaphragm. You can always call the PA line and ask them, or even try to email Dr V. If you need the number send me a message. Did you get stuck on something and vomit?

It was very hard to pinpoint the exact symptoms of a slippage bc it can be so subtle, we aren’t sure if I slipped early out and then it got acute and I KNEW something wasn’t right. But mostly I had problems with eating, keeping foods/liquids down, and lots of indigestion and heartburn. I know its vague but its different for every person. One thing Ive come to learn is that heartburn and reflux are a sign something isn’t right

L2t7 were you looking for an unfill? How you feeling now? Stressed? Haws the eating going?

I’ve changed my appt so I could make the 20th meeting.

Thanks for the feedback Tiny/

I haven't had any of the indigestion problems you spoke of. I'm still pretty tight. This is really hard though. It seems to be getting worse. Thank goodness my mums around to help me w/ the girls today.

I have a question, I am due for my first fill on Jan. 15 I don't feel that I need one right now. I fell full very quickly If eat 2 or 3 tsp of something. I've lost 30 lbs since 12/3/ does that sound like I need a fill. A friend of mine was banded in May, 2008 and has not had a fill yet. She has lost over 60 lbs. What do you think fellow bandster.

Heidi, HOW ARE YOU NOW???

YLJ: Even if you're scheduled for a fill, your doctor will ask you a few questions to determine if it's really appropriate to give you a fill. 1) Are you hungry between meals?

2) How much are you eating at each meal?

3) Do you feel restricted or can you consume at least the directed amount at each meal?

If you're feeling restricted and don't want a fill, you should still go in for your regularly scheduled appointments, at least for the first 6 months or so. It's good to let them document your progress and check to be sure that things are ok. Congrats on your weight loss! It's great to hear you've had such success!!!

yes Heidi how are you feeling now? I didnt realize you were also tight. I think you may be swollen and need an unfill if this is still continuing

greeting LYJ and like Luv said you most likely dont need a fill but its good to check in with your Dr and let them assess you and how often you should be going back for check ups.

Happy New Year to all my fellow bandsters!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
