I snorted when I read that. Honest.

Holy crap! I think I need to hang out at OH more often.

Believe me, you don't want to. I've given up on that place. There are a bunch of people there that will drive you up the freakin' wall. Seriously, my teeth grind every time I go there. It's like nails on a fucking chalkboard.

OMG ... i cant believe im sharing this story, but here goes...

ok... DH and I dated on the internet (met, courted, you name it ..) we met on a Saturday and married that next Wednesday. been happily married for over 10 years.

WOHOOO For internet Love Stories!!! :) I met my DH because of a chat room we both talked in on AOL. But we never talked to each other or knew about each other. But one night we both happened to go to Hollywood Athletic Club Where alot of the people in that chat room hung out on Monday nights. 4 months after that night we started dating, 8 years later we were married. and here we are almost 15 years later. still happy and in love. :-D:tt2:

OMG I can't believe I am reading this stuff again today! Here is another poop thread and how to overcome the intrusive and abusive odoriferous side effects of DS:

The whole stink issue - Duodenal Switch Support Forum

This is in the above thread:

In contemplating this surgery, you do need to be prepared for the stink factor. Seriously. And yes, my mom had a colostomy, and I smelled up a room worse than she ever did. Colostomies depend on where they bypass the intestines. But to me, it smelled like a baby diaper if it ever leaked or if she changed it

In my opinion, we smell more pungent and it lingers. Yes, it lingers on your clothes if you pass gas in them. It lingers in your car if you do it there. I got pulled over in a check stop and almost died of embarassment. i laughed later but at the time it was terrible when that poor unsuspecting cop stuck his face in my car when he asked if I had been drinking! Okay, the memory still stings a bit and yet I still laugh about it too. what can you do.

But you learn where and when to relieve your gas, and what to eat and when. You learn to pass gas in the bedroom closet if you have guests over! And to take Probiotics or Devrom, light lots of matches and candles at home, or get an inonizer air purifier (they do work!). You learn to flush while you go to the bathroom, and to use a drop of bleach or "Just a drop" in the toilet if you're worried. You carry a mini air freshner in your purse etc.

It is an ongoing issue for me. I'm not going to lie. Again, just my opinion, but it does become a new part of your life. Before I found my secret bathroom at work, I would drive home at lunch to avoid sharing my co-workers bathroom. I also spent about 5 months avoiding anything social in the evenings because of the gas I would get early every evening (it gets better after the first year). I cried about it many times. In fact, I just moved into my parents house this month and my mom innocetly told me that I could have her air purifier. I was sad because she could smell it when she walked upstairs even though I had my bedroom door closed all night. 8-sad.gif So, I use the air purifier and leave the window open a bit or leave a candle lit. Most of my gas is while i sleep.

But it is an issue you will need to deal with. It's not the end of the world but it wil be a factor to consider and be honest with yourself about.

And generalized body odor is not anything you need to be worried about. Just when you fart or poop.

Thinking and pondering... Why did I get a band instead of DS????

This stuff has just gotta be true, nobody could make up this stuff.

I came and read...and you are right its therapuetic. Its hard to convey on this board the toxicity and outright rage that a group of DSers on OH have towards all other WLS. It got so bad that OH had to give us bandsters a private forum so you wouldnt be attacked. It was so disgusting to see someone post and say they were in bandster hell or ask if they needed a fill and have that group come on and tell them they were F-ing morons and total idiots for getting the lap band in the first place. They would provoke with threads saying 7 out of 10 bands fail etc. Newbies were confused and the DSers could never be reasoned with.

I love how they continually deny the stink problem. They can deny it all they want every doctor I have ever talked to says that is a real problem and actually is a reason to NOT get the surgery if you have better options. In my mind almost every other main stream WLS is better.

I dont go to R&R on OH because its not a healthy debate its this group of DSers that are so into their propaganda they are delusional.

OMg this quote is from that forums. Would you women really go through all this to lose weight? I'm a guy and I sure wouldn't.

I have a really strange issue with the smelliness. I'm going to try to put this delicately. Guys would never have this problem because their equipment is different. When I'm in a situation where I can't release the gas, I clamp down and don't let it out. Somehow it escapes, but not into the air, into another oraface. Then when I stand up in escapes. It sounds just like a regular fart, but it's coming from a place that I can't close down. This is going to really embarass me sometime.

That's pretty interesting though. I have enough problems with gas now. I can't imagine it being worse. I would never be able to leave the house!

I have this new theory I am working on. ;o)

I figure it this way... for a long time I sincerely didn't know if a certain personality type was drawn to that procedure or if that procedure caused their personality "issues".

I got to thinking, the newbies that don't even have the procedure are just as bad such as peach. So it's not a nutritional thing their wee brains are missing.

This is where my theory comes in. Heh...

I think that DSers are like us in their eating disorder or whatever it is that is wrong with us. But they are unwilling or unable to give up food and they are demanding, unable to tolerate being denied anything in life including food, they demand that the world conforms to their ways of doing things and when their body does not conform the way they insist, they change it so it does.

Instead of adopting a healthy lifestyle they squeal in delight while they feed from the trough. The types and amounts of food they consume is no different from pre-surgery. They refuse to deny themselves a bloody thing and adopting a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating habits, and reasonable calories their body requires is something they are unable to do.

I realize that banding takes the most effort of all WLS types and maybe since we are reaching our goals they are angry that they couldn't do the same. I also realize banding isn't for everyone, I think that many jump into it ONLY because it is reversible and not because it is the right surgery for their eating behaviors. But it is not what they make it out to be either.

They think nothing of degrading and insulting us because we chose a band over stench, but mention how bad they smell and their tails uncurl in sheer anger and denial.

They say they don't stink yet in the next post they are coming up with every product in the market to stop people around them from gagging. If companies make products just for stinky WLS patients, there must be a market so they must indeed stink.

They use baby wipes, adults wipes, and washclothes for their butts, fabreeze, Lysol, and neutralizers for their clothing. They use special sprays for the air, special detergents for their laundry, candles, matches, antibiotics long term, OTC "stop stink" pills, and now my favorite, drops in their toilets.

Tell me they don't stink... maybe they should back off from the trough and get a freak'en grip. They say their obesity is cured. It's not cured, they forced their body into a position of being able to tolerate huge quantities of bad food, they justify it by saying their body turns bad unhealthy food into good food, and all this so they don't have to deal with their issues. Only it does not appear that it's all that great for their body either. If a human being is omitting those kinds of aromas, perhaps they need to reconsider this "cure" they have.

I'll take a band ANY day over stinky.

Oh HELL no!

I finally found something that I'd rather be fat than to experience. I don't want whahoohoo farts and I don't want stinky. I'd rather be fat.

I dunno, plain... That or someone just bought a SummersEve douche.

However, I have to admit... I've never heard of douching a toilet before using.

Hey I just had an idea. Maybe Fairyfacade could work with the just a drop people and create a new "rainbow scent". Sounds like a winner!!

Wasa, I'm with you. I read a lot in their forum. I couldn't quit reading....it was TOO entertaining. I was literally reading with tears in my eyes from laughing (I know.....I'm a mean bast*rd.....can't help it). Especially the lady whose horrible smelling gas apparently somehow eminates from her mommyparts. Wow, romantic.

Oh man, that is downright disgusting.

I can put my hand on my heart and say absolutely without guile that I would rather be fat than stink like that. Seriously.

perhaps its just that I only ever got to a BMI of 35?

And maybe its just me, also, but I actually derive PLEASURE from the hard work that I have put in to this. It has enhanced my self esteem and self respect. I once got cained on this board for saying that had I had a gastric bypass (which I know we're not talking about here) I would have been saddened by the fact that it had come to that. I meant no disrespect to GBPers at the time, simply that I was so empowered by the strength I had discovered within me, strength that success with a lapband demands. I saw other forms of surgery as really having gone past the stage of being able to call up that strength.

I worry when I have to use a public toilet as it is lol. As soon as it hits the Water I flush THEN i wipe and flush again (yes, even in drought!!) - so that nobody else gets to enjoy last night's dinner with me!

I know, it is soooo ... not PC to laugh at their medical problems but I can't help it, I can't quit laughing.

My favorite is still the "spring day" comment. That one was just priceless.

Since we are all sharing...

I had DH convinced for at least 6 months into our marriage that women don't fart. That I didn't fart. I swear to whatever you worship. I had him snowed.

He looked horrified when I finally farted in front of him.

I just wish it had smelled like a spring day!

No, I had a 46bmi.. I was quite large. I would not have gone with stinky to lose weight. Kind of like dumping, I didn't like the idea of possibly poo'ing my pants.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
