I think it's good - even critical - for people to know both sides. My surgeon never really told me the "bad". If it weren't for this site, I'd have had no idea what was happening when I had my first PB, and probably would have ended up in an ambulance/ER. I would also think that being able to eat chicken and Pasta means there's something wrong, because everytime I would go in for a fill that's what he would ask -- can you eat chicken? Can you eat pasta? (Umm, SHOULD I not be able to, because I can...)

I don't like surprises. I like to know exactly what I'm getting into, as medical staff that has cared for me can attest to. If it's bad, who cares, I can deal with it, but I need to know it can happen. If it's going to hurt, tell me, but tell me how long it's going to take you to finish, if the pain will linger, etc.

I would not have gotten a well-rounded picture of the band had I just listened to the medical resources.

The people who really want to commit suicide to end their lives (not talking about the ones who commit suicide to hurt someone else) aren't the ones who call a hotline and announce they're going to jump, or make a big dramatic scene about it. That would give someone the oppourtinty to intervene, and they don't want that. They're the ones who slip away unnoticed, never to be heard from again. The people who make the big scene are the ones who want to be talked out of it.

I liken this to "announcements" of people leaving a board. If someone really wants to leave, why don't they just slip away? Why even announce it? Are you hoping people try to talk you out of it? The ones who really want to leave aren't the ones who post "This is my last post" because -- who cares? Why aren't you just gone already? (Maybe the answer is "there's still more attention to gather.")

Usually if someone announces they're leaving, they're not leaving. I posted this once long ago to someone else dramatically announcing they were leaving, and she posted to argue with me -- that she was indeed leaving. But umm... you're still here disagreeing with me, even though your last post was like 3 posts ago... and there you are again...

Whatever the case, if you find a resource valuable, then it's a shame you let anyone have enough power over you to make you leave.

I completely agree.

I told my doctor at support group that having a lap band has changed my life. Then , I went on to say that's it's not because of the weight loss, it's because I found LBT. I am addicted to it and have met some pretty wonderful people here. I could never live without LBT but I don't think I'll ever even have to try.

I just love the word snort. Sounds like snot. Snot reminds me of picking my nose. Picking my nose reminds me of bing a kid, that reminds me of when I could run in the yard naked through the sprinkler.

I wish I could still run naked through the sprinkler.

Damm those Water restrictions.

I'm still laughing at all the varied responses, but I have to admit, this one made me laugh the hardest:

You're fat. Stop whining. It's annoying. Don't be fat AND annoying.

Is that anything like:

I may be fat, but you're ugly and stupid. And I can lose weight...

I find it annoying when people rant in super huge coloured letters in an attempt to get our attention, but can't even spell. (and before anyone corrects me, we spell "coloured" with a U in Australia ). I mean not only does what you're saying sound like a big pile of crap, you can't even spell what you're trying to say so we can understand it properly.

Now who is being annoying???? Hmmmm?

In the new movie "Horton Hears a Who" there is a line by the little fluffy yellow friend of Horton's, saying in his world they "eat butterflies and poop rainbows"---or it might even be the other way around eat rainbows, and poop butterflied, I don't remember, but my 3 year old granddaughter does, and repeats it often!!!!

Everyone is a pony and they eat rainbows and poop butterflies.

That was a cute movie, I took the kid to see it last night.

Travelgirl- The best part was in the last scene when they all sang REO Speedwagon lol

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
