First Week Weightloss

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on March 17th in Mexico with Dr. Ortiz. Overall, I am feeling good, some bloating and gas pain. Just curious about a couple things, I have been strictly adhering to the post-op liquid diet but have not gained or lost an ounce in the first week, is this normal? If so when should I expect to start losing the weight? I am also quite sore and swollen at the larger incision sight and there is a hard lump behind it as well. Is this where the port is? I was expecting it to be off to the side of my body not so close to the centre?

First of all congrats . Second you should not "Expect' any weight loss for the first six weeks. The first 6 weeks post op is about recovery not weight loss.

your body just went through surgery , it has to HEAL FIRST . THEN you can think about and worry about weight loss. Now , Will you lose some weight ? Maybe , Probably . SO if you do think of it as a bonus ! The larger incision area is probably your port incision . Directly behind that area is probably not the port , it might be scar tissue, but maybe not this early . If you have any concerns its best to call your doctor. But for my personally that area was more sore than the others. But like i said i would call your doc.

Again be patient with the weight loss, right now you need to HEAL !

The weight loss will come over the rest of your life !

I have been drinking strictly broth, Water and Protein Drinks. I have lost 5 lbs four days post op. I would think that you would be losing right now because you would be hardly getting any calories in. Though you might have bloated a little after surgury thus really losing weight but gaining from being bloated.

Its common to retain fluids post op , everyone is different . Just as with the band and weight loss in general . Some people lose faster some slower.

You cant compare yourself with other. Again post op ESPECIALLY a week post op is not about weight loss !

I was banded on the 18th by Dr. Ortiz. When I got home I stepped on the scale and almost died, I was up 6.5 lbs from the day I left. But then I realized, my body is bloated, pumped full of gas, swollen (oh and retaining Water for another reason). Dr. Miranda was clear that now is the time to heal, not worry about weightloss so off the scale I go. I will see the loss soon enough,

I think i lost around 8the first week post op , it slows down .

If your worried about it i would ask your doc. Trust me it wont stay that way LOL

Not much you can do about it now . But you should be ok . I have heard of people loosing quite a bit the first week or so and then they wont lose anything for 4 weeks. It all sort of even outs in the end. I lost 20 lbs one month ! That was too much for my skin to handle in my arms , they are not flabby because of that. That's not typical .

So again anytime your worried about ANYTHING call your doc. Trust Me they are use to it and that is what you pay them for

My port is in the middle also. My doctor said it was easier for them to fill from the front rather than the side, and also prevents less complications during the surgery.

Hi All - I was banded on March 18th - so so hungry I might add for something "chewable". I myself was getting a bit concerned about my wieght lost. Since surgery, I've lost 19 lbs in 8 days and 41 lbs since the pre op diet that started on March 3th. Not complaining, frankly estactic, but, during my 1st post op meeting with my Dr., he was pleased and said for a man, this in not unusual. I did go up a few pounds immediately following surgery, but, I've gone from 333.3 to 292.3 in 3 weeks, 2 days. Really jazzed. I'm 6ft 4in, and looking forward to also getting back in shape and getting some definition in arms, legs, etc. - praying with the fast lost, won't get the hanging skin, (stay tuned). I haven't even had my first fill and already close to 1/2 to my wieght loss goal! When will the honeymoon be over? ... and anything other than liquids I can get away with - two 1/2 more weeks of liquids is going to kill me.

i went up 4 lbs after surgery...but they came off after a few days. everyone is different and surgery will impact everyone differently. just follow the doctors orders and try to think of it as a long term goal v. everyday weight loss ... it's hard - but the real truth will be if we can lose the weight and keep it off years from now!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
