Now I am worried. It appears all of you on the 6 month BC/BS prediet lost weight. I gained about 12 pounds. Will that prevent them from approving my surgery????!!!!!! I have the psyc evaluation and sleep study to go and that is it...I'll be glad when I get through with all of this. :smile2:

See, in my thought process I would think that you gaining would increase your chances of getting approved. I think as long as you do what youre supposed to and fall within the guidelines you'll be ok...I actually got denied by my previous insurance. LUCKILY our insurance changed over at the beginning of the year and I reapplied and was accepted. When I started the 6month diet I had no intention of having the surgery. About half way thru when I stopped losing weight I started looking at other options and I found out about the lap band...so for me I was half way thru doing what I needed to get approved before I even knew I wanted the surgery. I actually needed to gain 2lbs to have the correct bmi....theyre really strict but as long as you show it on paper youre good!!! I think the whole point in all of these requirements is to weed out the ones that arent really serious. If you go thru this horrible process they feel like you are more apt to lose the weight and get healthy and trust me the only reason insurance companies are paying for this is bc they feel it will save them money in the long run!

Sounds like we've all been bad except Shawna and Jason! I ate everything in sight. But, I did walk on the beach a lot! You know, "they" always say don't weigh everyday, but I do or I would gain more weight. It really helps to see what works for me and what keeps me from losing. I weigh everyday at the same time, right before I get in the shower. And you see what happens when I'm away from a scale for a few days, I go wild and gain 3 lbs. That's the most I've gained since surgery. It will be gone by Friday, I MEAN IT!

Anyway, has anyone else noticed that the lack of fat in our diet has made our skin incredibly dry this fall? Please tell me you have and it's not oldage. The skin on my hands is like sandpaper, no matter how much lotion I use all day. With the humidity at the beach, my skin was so soft and within 24 hours of being home, I'm growing fish scales again........

Don't worry band, just between us (and the rest of the world I gained 15lbs from my initial visit with Dr. Miles until the day before surgery. I think I gained around 10-12 during my supervised visits. Nothing was said and I was approved.

LOL Di am the same exact way about weighing - but for me to update my ticker - it has to stay consistant for more than 2 days...LOL! I weigh in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes I will gain 1 or 2lbs but I believe that it is mostly Water - since I retain water like a camel - If I don't take my water pills I will not pee for literally 8 hours. I also have that inner ear thing and I walk sideways after about 2 days of not taking them. Anyways I read that people who weigh daily do better at keeping weight off for the long term and I am a true believer in that.

Another big feat for me today. Okay you know we all have them "goto" clothes. The ones that you feel most comfortable in cuz they fit all the time and hide the rolls of fat. Well I have this sweater that I have had for probably 6 years that I wore ALL THE TIME over the last 6 years, well today I wore it cuz its brown and I just bought some new pants. Well we have mirrors all over our office and I looked and this sweater is WAY too big! I am gonna have to move it to my just wear at home drawer. hehe!!

YAY to the just wear at home drawer!!!!!!!!

HA I would have to say I may have you all beat on the weighing daily. DONT LAUGH OR THINK IM CRAZY- I weigh as soon as I get up in the morning, before I eat Breakfast, when I get home in the afternoon and before I go to bed....I know that is completely insane but its what keeps me on top of my weight. When I was at my family's house for thanksgiving after I ate I got on their scale....hey I didnt pig out by any means but I did have some YUMMY squash casserole :cursing: But I know that if I go 2 or 3 days without getting on the scale I will gain...so you know. And Fordgal Im like you I dont change my ticker until Ive been at that weight for at least 2 days.

I do know that I can have a treat once in a while and I don't gain, don't lose either, but as long as I don't gain I'm happy. Not too happy this week!

I forgot to tell y'all the most awsome thing that happened. It was supposed to be raining and in the 60's at the beach while we were there, well it wasn't. We brought nothing but jeans and long sleeves and sweaters. Well, Friday afternoon it was so hot sitting on the deck I couldn't stand it anymore and went in search for something to put on. I put on my husbands' tshirt and boxers. They're mediums!!!! The peep hole in the boxers was gapped wide open, but I didn't bust a seam when I sat down. So, I'm all set for shorts this spring!

Good morning guys!!

Ok, as you are well aware, I have my first fill tomorrow. SO ~ since I am scared out of my mind...please tell me what I need to expect. I'm afraid it's going to hurt and I have been through enough pain on this trip!

Any advice?

First of all when they ask if you want the numbing shot, tell them no. I understand it hurts. The fill doesn't hurt at all, just a little prick at first. Like my pediatrician told me when I was a kid, if you don't look at it, it doesn't hurt.

Di is right. It feels weird more than anything. It doesn't hurt. I have never got the numbing medicine. After its over you might feel like you got a bruise on your tummy, but its not painful. Let us know how it goes!

If you find that the fill is too uncomfortable for you ask them to give you the numbing cream. You get a prescription and put the cream over the site 1 hr before your fill cover it with 4*4 piece of tape or clear adhesive remove right before your fill and wipe off...you dont feel anything! I have never had a fill without it and I have never had any pain!!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
