Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

Recommended Posts

Everyone say a prayer or keep you fingers crossed that Dr. K. Schmitt clears me for surgery. That #@!* CPAP machine data is driving me crazy. She keeps telling me I am not "compliant" because I have skipped days on the machine. The days have been when we have lost power, but that doesn't seem to matter to her. We lost it twice the last 2 weeks, but I called the office and had them note it in my chart, so I am hoping that does the trick!

Anyone ever hear from venzwife? I am getting concerned!

I can definately relate to you!! I had a defective machine and it was so frustrating (you can go back to the beginning of the board to read about it). I was compliant and the machine said it wasn't. Turns out the stupid machine was defective and had been recalled. I didn't know until day before my surgery if they would even do it or not. BIG HEADACHE!! Hang in there!

Venz!! Where are you? How are you doing? We are all wondering how you are doing!! Give us an update!

Hope everyone is well!!

nonscale victories are AWESOME!!!

I have to say I have been feeling a little sick these last few days.

But one thing I wanna say that Ive noticed thats changed about me (well hubby brought it to my attention) I never WANT anything to eat...especially this last week....everytime my hubby has asked me this week what I want to eat Im like I dont care whatever,,,used to I would be like oh I really want sushi or I really want BBQ....now its like I dont really care....I dont "crave" foods like I used to. Now I will say I am looking forward to my trip to fl so I can eat some seafood. But I dont get those afternoon cravings for choc. or ice cream or anything like that....Its just strange how that has all changed...:)

Didn't realize how right you are. I used to get up out of bed to see what i could eat first or leave for work early so i could pick up something before work.

Now i : drink flavored water, check out this site, and drink a Protein Shake on the way to work.

When wife was banded in Nov.2008 i tried the Protein Shakes and hated all of them. I thought i was gonna have a hard time with Protein because of that. About a month after i was banded i tried another one just for fun.

I don't know why but it taisted like heaven( lol). Most of my cravings for food are gone too so i guess thats gonna help on vacation.

We are going on vacation the last week of July and was making a list of things to buy for the trip. It used to cokes, chips, and all types of junk foods. Now it's : cases of Water and drink mixes, Protein Bars, and 2 cases of protein shakes. It's amazing how things change!!!

Yeah I used to get up in the mornings and be like ok what is something oey goey and high infat and calories that I can make for Breakfast...now we have fruit or Protein Shake or just some boiled eggs...and its all good...a lot of mornings those (shame shame) I dont even eat. Im not hungry. Its like knowing that food can stick just makes you not wanna eat I think for me has a lot to do with it....I tried a steak a few weeks ago...didnt give me trouble but I just didnt like it....WOW I said something is really really wrong..(becuase I LOVED steak) I would rather have fish or grilled chicken.

Went to the meeting in bham I think it was last weekend now and I finally found a Protein Shake that I actually really like:

Choc. Peanut Butter shake:

1/2 fat free milk, 1cup of ice, 1 scoop of vanilla matrix, 1 pack of sugar free swiss miss chocolate, 1 TBSP of Peanut Butter, 2-3 packs of splenda, and blend...IT IS AWESOME!!!!!

Wow, this conversation is so interesting because I feel the same way about food and I've only had my band about 6 weeks. I've been in training with my colleagues for two weeks and we ate out a lot. They asked me where I wanted to go eat lunch but it didn't matter to me. I didn't crave anything. I found things I could eat but wasn't my main focus. Mine was to enjoy their company. I take a lunchbox with me everywhere now with Snacks and Water. Used to, after class, I'd have to stop at a fast food joint and at least get a glass of sweet tea but now, I rarely stop for anything...I have my lunchbox. Thank goodness for Veronica and her suggestions. I know this may sound crazy but I don't know how to cook for my family any more. I just don't know what to cook. I'm good with fish and chicken all the time but I know they want more variety.

Side note...went out to eat last night. Ordered grilled talapia and it came with 3 or 4 shrimp. I ate one....it was soooo bad. My husband ended up eating them. I used to love shrimp but I don't think I like them anymore. I haven't tried steak yet. I haven't had the desire.

I think the change in my eating habits is difficult for my husband. Before the surgery, our lives centered around food. We went out to eat, talked about food, planned activities around food....but now we don't. I know they said there would be emotional changes and maybe some problems but I never considered this. I think there's going to be some growing pains.

I just wanted to pop in to say hello to everyone. I haven't posted in a while and I feel like I need this accountability. Especially in the lazy days of summer. Any encouragement would be appreciated. Congrats to everyone you all are doing so well. Jason as always, you are the truth brother!

Haven't decided what to do but i wanted your opinion on what you would do.Ok here it goes:

I have an oppointment for another fill on July 16th. I can tell my restriction is not what it was when i got my second fill about 3 weeks ago. I was real tight then. I still get stuck alittle and the restriction is fair.

I leave for florida on July 23rd for 10 days of vacation. What would you do? Would you go for another fill or wait untill after vacation? I'm undecided.

Personally I would def eait until I got back. That way Im not dealing with a brand new fill during vacation. The time after the fill is always the worst. Enjoy your vacation and then come back ready to rock!!

gone 4 ever, just go to the meet and greet thread. but it is all ready to go. just getting the details down for the cooking and stuff like that. prices is listed on the thread. its something like 20 dollars a person.

see it pays to go to the support group meetings. and they will mixed different ones every meeting just let them know what you want to try.

on a side note and a great one for me. i went to buy me some shorts for vacatiopn trip coming up. i was thinking i might be able to wear a size 44 in waist. but come to fine out, i was able to fit in a 42. i was like WOW! :tongue2::thumbup::cursing:

i haven't been able to fit in a 42 since like 9th grade. so you see why im so happy. i got to buy clothes from the mens section and not the big and tale section. i almost started to cry. it was a very big deal for me.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
