Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Well, I haven't been on here in a long time. Next week will be 2 years since my surgery, and I have gained back what little weight I lost plus some extra. I have been too embarassed to go back to the doctor, but I think I will see if I can get an appointment next week. I am so tired of fighting this weight battle, and even though everyone said surgery is no "magic bullet", I guess I was hoping it would be for me. Hopefully I can get the courage up to go into the office. I don't want to be scolded (even though I probably need to be)! Amy

JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery
Congrats to those of you who have done so well with your weight loss. I was doing ok until I fell and injured my knee before the holidays and then sat around eating holiday food for a month. I am finally able to exercise, but being so sedentary got me back into my bad eating habits. Does anybody have any advice to help get me back on track? I am almost embarrassed to go back to my surgeon for a fill, which I probably need.

anyone eat fast food yet?
Since I have to drive to class 1 night a week, I have been getting Chick Fil A chicken strips (3 count) which have 33 grams of Protein total. There are also 350 calories, which is much lower than the Zaxbys meal I used to eat prior to surgery. I know the fat is a little high compared to the calories, but even without the fries it is a filling meal on the go. I don't feel it is too bad, since I only do this once a week.

No burning anywhere...If you've ever been so hungry your stomach hurt, that is what it feels like. But when I get up and walk around, burp a little, go to the bathroom, it stops. Hopefully it won't happen again tonight!

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Hi all! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Since school started back I have been super busy. I have a question for you guys....the last couple of nights I woke up about 2 am with pain in my stomach. I could hear it growling at me and I had a little gas come up after I got up, but I was wondering why so much pain? Do you think it is because my stomach is empty at that time and I need to eat before bed? Or could there be something going wrong with the band? I have only had one fill (3cc) since my surgery and go back in 2 weeks for another, so I will definitely ask the nurse about the pain when I return. Thanks!

Congrats Amanda-that is AWESOME! I must admit I am a little jealous, since we had surgery the same week and have only lost 18 pounds (22 if you count the 4 I have gained and lost again)! :tongue_smilie:I am glad to hear you are doing well, since you had so much trouble at the beginning. I have my first fill on Tuesday, so hopefully that will give me a little more restriction. Right now I feel like I could eat a house, but I try really hard to stick to my portions! I hope everyone is doing well. I guess the next support group meeting is in 2 weeks????? Hopefully I can make that one, since I am done with my weekend classes!!!!

June 2009 Surgery
I am sorry to hear about your flipped port but I hope all goes well with the corrective surgery. Do you have the realize band or the other one? I ask because I have the realize band and have had a lot of pain at my port lately (internal like pulling muscle) and my doc said it was to be expected. Just wondering if I also could've flipped! How did you know yours had flipped? Anyone else having port issues?

totally uncomfortable
I have had similar issues with my back. I think because I have been trying so hard not to hurt my front (incisions and port site) that I have hurt my back in the process. I have been using a heating pad on my back when I am sitting and it helps. You could also try one of those adhesive heat wrap pads for work. I have also been doing some walking periodically, just to stretch out those muscles somewhat. Good luck to you!

Band June 30th when to expect first fill?
I was also banded on the 30th! I won't have a fill for 6 weeks after my surgery date, which will be August 11th. I had some restriction from surgery the first few days but not as much now that I have healed some. I am still on full liquids and won't move into soft foods until 2 weeks post op. I feel like I can get more liquids in than the 1/2 cup I am supposed to get in a sitting. However, I am doing my best to practice those small portions so that when I do get a fill, I will be ready for eating a little at a time! How are things going with you?

Pre-op diet
My doctor doesn't require one either, but another doctor in his practice does. I did 1 week of 2 protein shakes and 1 small meal per day just to get a head start on my weight loss and to have time to try out some different protein shakes. I lost 5 pounds in that one week, so I was happy!:smile2:

Had surgery on 6/30....hungry
Full liquids for me included yogurt and cream soup so I would ask your doctor for clarification. I have learned from this site that every doctor has different ideas about pre and post op diet plans. PS-if you can have cream soup get some potato or cheddar broccoli soup and blend it to death to get any little chunks out! Good luck!

6mth diet question, really confused.
I had to see a nutritionist or do a weight loss program for 6 months and have it documented in my chart at my PCPs office. In my case they had an in house nutritionist that I used but I could've done weight watchers and taken my weigh ins to my PCP once a month to document. However every insurance company and policy is different so you need to get your plans requirements in writing. Hope that helps some! Good luck!

I want one Too!!
Here is the website I used: Weight Loss - Diet Ticker Have your "edit signature" window open and go to this site in a new window. After you make all of your selections (I suggest adding in a code so that only you can update it), copy the ENTIRE address in the bbCode box, then paste it into your signature. Then you can preview your signature to make sure it worked. Either bookmark your completed ticker to go back and update your weight OR click on your ticker in any of your postings and it will take you to the login page for your ticker info! Hope this helps and makes sense! PS-If you want the sparkly month add-on (like JUNE JOURNEYS), find someone's that you like and copy/paste it into your signature. That is what I did!

Bad Lapband experience
I am sorry to hear about your difficulties. Hopefully things will improve from this point on. I have had luck with Mederma (sp?) for other scars and I have seen advertisements for Bio-Oil, which is supposed to be good as well. Since I am only 1 week out of surgery, I cannot use them on my surgery incisions, but I plan to use them once I am healed! Good luck to you and don't let the negative postings get you down.
