I am going to get a lap band in about two weeks. My doctor has not mentioned anything about a special pre-op diet. Is that strange?

My doctor doesn't require one either, but another doctor in his practice does. I did 1 week of 2 Protein Shakes and 1 small meal per day just to get a head start on my weight loss and to have time to try out some different Protein shakes. I lost 5 pounds in that one week, so I was happy!:smile2:

Mine is about the same. Some have a full 2 weeks of Clear liquids, some only a week, some none at all...it is completely up to the surgeon.

My surgeon told me I didn't have to do Protein shakes...his nutritionist gave me a specific clear liquid diet, but my surgeon told me directly to just lose as much weight as I can so the liver shrinks... it makes surgery safer. he told me low carbs and only do Protein shakes if I am replacing a meal. I took it upon myself to do 2 Protein Shakes for my first 2 meals, then a low carb high protein dinner. Gets me in practice for post op, and gets the weight loss started:)

Whatever your surgeon tells you to do is what you should follow. It is completely your surgeon's discreton and decision.

Good luck!

My doctor was very clear about both my pro-op and post-op diet. He had handouts and dos and don'ts.

But as you will see if you look around the board many different surgeons, many different eating plans.

One of the things my surgeon said is he likes for people to go on preop diets so their system and mind is not in complete shock when they have to have only Clear Liquids after surgery.

What does the nutritionist on staff w/your surgeon say? How about plans post-op?

What kind of Protein shakes did you drink?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
