Call from doctor this morning

My general practice doctor called me at 7:30am this morning from his personal cell phone! I panicked, I am scheduled to have my band Monday and I have been doing a lot of testing so I was scared something was wrong. I returned the call and first thing the he said was "you know the surgery has been postponed" and I am like no i didn't. Well turns out there is a rash of people going into respiratory failure after they get home from surgery. My doctor knows one person personally who is now in a vegatative state. He spoke with my sleep doctor and he decided that the outpatient procedure is probably not the right way for me since i have such severe sleep apnea. I am now in limbo waiting to hear from the sleep doctor to call me and find out what is going on. I am panicking! AHH! Can someone help me calm down? Has anyone had this prob?

Tracy,

You MUST calm down. Think about the alternatives if they went ahead and did your surgery anyway. If there are problems with people coming out of this surgery, then you want them to be working damn hard to find out what's going on BEFORE they operate on YOU! Too, it may mean that they just have more team members or specialists in the OR with you and maybe you stay in hospital for a couple of days for monitoring. Whatever... you DO NOT want to be heading into an OR that is having problems with patients when you may be further compromised to begin with. You DO want to wake up from surgery. You DO want to go home safely. You DO want to recover fully and be healthy. Take a deep breath and thank GOD, if you are inclined, that this was postponed This is probably a blessing in disguise. Your Dr. did say "postponed," not "canceled." Hang in there.

Thank you! I just found out that my surgeon does not have hospital privileges so I am not sure what is going to happen! I am still waiting to hear.

Thanks again!

Isn't losing privileges a BIG thing...

I would wait to get the full details, but I would also start shopping around for a new surgeon.
