I feel bad cause I've been bad

Recommended Posts

I was told I had to do 24 hrs of Clear Liquids, 14 days of pureed, then 14 days of soft foods. I am a strict vegetarian who does not eat artifical sweetners so most of what I have been eating is carbs and sugar (from fruit). Thin mashed potatoes, blended potato Soup, thin cream of wheat, fruit smoothies with Protein Powder, some plain yougart and pudding. I really used to think I Loved carbs but one more bite of mashed potatoes and I think I will die. Veggies in the blender is GROSS. I am ready for soft so I can eat something a little more healthy.

I havent been really loosing since surgery. I hope that when I can start eating other things that will change. I feel like I am eating worse than what I did before surgery.

The reason your doctor has you lay off solid food post surgery is to allow your stomach to heal. This is a short term thing, and you should follow his instructions to the very best of your ability. Why risk the success of your surgery over a momentary pleasure?

I fessed up to my surgeon at 1-week post-op that I had had some peas and steamed spinach with my mashed potatoes--I was allowed to go full liquid 3-days post-op. He was unconcerned and said to take it slow and chew well but that I could add foods back in, starting with softer stuff. Two weeks later, I could add raw veggies.

My only true rules are no doughy breads, sticky rice, or corn. So far, I am tolerating everything very well, unless I eat too quickly or too much.

I will be honest. I am not at my sweet spot 2 months post - op and I've been eating regular foods. The thing I fear is gaining back the 30 lbs I lost on my pre and post liquid diet. I already gained back 4 lbs. I am back on track and have to use willpower to help me through. Too bad I was never any good at the willpower thing. Anyway, just don't gain like me. It is very upsetting.

I am a nurse and if you've watched the lapband surgery video it is clear that the band is sewn into your stomach. I think you'd have to eat a complete steak unchewed to disrupt this band. I believe that taking it easy is reasonable....and I think physicians advise you to stay with fluids/soft to keep you in control. I was banded on 3/12 and was eating soft foods second week without difficulty. Quantity is about a third of what I usually eat. I've had no breads but have had chicken, Soups, and baby food fruits. We'll all be fine....don't worry so much...

why is it so bad to eat or "cheat" on your post op diet? if you chew chew chew, to mush, are you hurting your pouch? Is the point of the post op diet to "heal" or what?

I had surg on 4-11-08. I doing really good. Felt pretty sore but not as bad as i thought! What did shock me was that about 4 days after i was hungry!! stomach was growling!! I have been pretty good with liquids. But did taste rice! and grilled cheese with my tomatoe soup!!!!!

I realize this was insane and could have hurt me! But im ok!!! i have had soft pastas and one egg over easy. But very little amounts. My kids eat more than me. Its only been 2wks. I shouldnt be doing softs yet!! I do protien shakes, yogurt, Soups, runny oatmeal and Jello pudding. all sugar free. Its not bad.

I have just started mashed potatoes and egg beaters this weekend. It all went down ok. I will be on course better now though!! Im happy with the softs and soups. I dont get 1st fill until may19th!!! I have not lost anymore weight. Just 15 now. But i plan on stepn up my excersise and walks!! I feel much more rested now.

:smile2::biggrin:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
