I Want My Band Removed Now!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Sue, and welcome to the forums. I am curious as to why, after only five weeks, you hate your band and are already ready to have it removed?

I have been miserable since day one. I can hardly swallow anything but liquid, I can't sleep, I have no energy, and I can't even begin to eat the amount of food that is recommended for week 5. No one I know has had my symptoms.

I just do not like the idea of this thing being in me - and I don't even recognize myself anymore. I don't want to go anywhere, see anyone, do anything. I force myself to walk each morning and night, but otherwise, I am miserable and unhappy. I have to force myself to eat and nothing tastes good at all!!! Before the banding, I was active, excercising regularly, feeling good. I just struggled to lose weight and thought that this would be a tool to help me with the weight control. However, it is not for me.

I had very similar problems, that's why I got a sleeve. Would you just give me a week and let me help you? We can chat via PM? Just a week. If things aren't better... remove the band. But just maybe I can help?

I've been where you are but for different reasons.

I feel almost the same way. Got my done about 9 days ago. I have stopped taking welbutrin cause I can't stand crushing them and no liquid form. I take my lexapro but only when cut in 1/4's. When I get a fill, I don't know if I will be able to do that. So my mood sucks even worse. I didn't know there would be stuff I couldn't eat anymore. Not that I have tried, but from what I have read, bread (so burgers, dogs etc.), fries, steak, chicken. I thought I would still be able to eat anything just in moderation. Now I am just scared to try and eat anything. Not that I can right now, but when the time comes. I am not myself. It hurts when I have gas and sometimes when drinking. I also might be moving soon and that means the insurance that paid for all this will be gone and I assume I will have to pay for my own fills etc., I can't afford that. I want to be "normal" again. My normal.

i'm 1 year 3 months post surgery. i'm not going to lie... this has been the most difficult thing i've EVER done. there are some days i wish i had never had surgery... that i would almost give up my life just to be able to eat 2 pieces of pizza one more time. BUT i'm beginning to love my new body. i wouldn't have been able to lose weight on my own. if i could have i would have.

it's still hard knowing i'll never get to eat certain foods anymore... pizza being on of those foods but you learn to live with it!

i take a few medications in pill form.. 2 of them being capsules... and i've never had any problems. you should be fine after your fill.

don't give up just yet. it WILL get easier, i promise!!

dbinnc,

I didn't have issues taking meds after I was banded but did for a while after having my gastric bypass but have no issues anymore and that's a whole different ballgame anyway as you have the malabsorption issue to deal with. You sound depressed and it's normal to be depressed after surgery and more difficult if you're not taking the meds that you should be. If I were you I'd get in touch with your therapist/doctor whoever prescribes these for you and tell them the issues you're having and why you're not taking your meds and what they suggest. My antidpressant is in capsule form so I could not cut it up even if I wanted to.

So talk to your doctor and hopefully you'll get back on the meds and feel much better for it. Take care, Nancy.

dbinnc, I'm actually glad I didn't know about this website until a while after I had my surgery. I would have thought the same thing as you .... that I can't eat anything. Luckily, I just forged ahead and found out that I can eat all that stuff, except for soft bread. But LOTS of people can eat soft bread. I can eat pizza, but I prefer the thin crust so maybe that's why I don't have any problems with it. DRY meats can be a problem, so re-evaluate your cooking process. Crock pot cooking, marinating, "mopping" with liquids when grilling, lo-cal sauces like mustards, etc. I found something interesting in the store, too .... Arnold's Bread makes a "bun" that is very thin, 100 calories, whole grain and I love the taste. Now, I have burgers instead of a piece of meat.

As for your meds, the first week or two weeks, you will have swelling which will make you tighter than you will be later on. I don't take any meds on a regular basis anymore except for Calcium supplements and I can swallow those horsepills whole with no problem NOW but not at the very first.

At first I was very aware of all the changes but now, 5-1/2 months later, it's no biggie. The thing is to NOT ASSUME anything. Try your favorite foods. Always remember to take bites about the size of a nickel and chew it well. Don't take big gulps of any liquids and you should be fine. REALLY.

And, if you want to talk to me back channel, my email is parr0thd51@aol.com

I was told I could never take pills ever again. after reading some other posts I tried anyway. I took my regular time released welbutrin last night and it went down fine. took it again this morning along with my lexapro cut in half instead of quarters. all fine. So this should get me back on track.

My big problem is that I am not creative when it comes to the kitchen. So i get bored really easily. I am also very picky eater. I have seen lots of recipes and tried some and others don't appeal to me. I like having something to follow. A plan of what I should eat. Not, "just have 3 shakes a day". need to know how to "mix it up" so to speak so I don't get bored and frustrated. I have been eating lots of Tomato Soup cause i don't know what else to have for lunch. I put unflavored Protein in it.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
