Please help -- Scary Port Pain While Exercising

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I am a 2 year bandster and have had a pretty good experience so far. I've been noticing a real achy pain in my port area when I'm exercising -- running/elliptical, etc. I've been doing more sit ups lately so maybe that's aggravating it? I've been blessed enough to have very few problems with my band, but now I'm getting a little nervous about the pain and the WORST part is that it makes me not want to exercise!!

There is no pain at all when I'm resting or doing daily activities. THis is really just while exercising. That said, this is a NEW thing. I used to do a ton of situps with no problems and I've been jogging for a while.

So... long story short:

1. Has anyone else here gone through this? I really appreciate hearing about it because just knowing that this

isn't completely abnormal is pretty helpful. I am sure that I should probably go see my doc right? I haven't seen him in a year! Unbelievable how time flies.

2. Could this have something to do with either building abdominal muscles or maybe with getting a little skinnier (thank god!). I have probably lost about 40 pounds in 2 years. Need to lose another 20 or so.

Thanks so much in advance my fellow bandsters for helping out a freaked out bandster vet :biggrin:

I have experienced port pain with exercise. My doc said to let it rest for a few days and resume exercise. He said, "You will get used to it as that muscle develops." I'm new at exercising, so I don't know if this applies to you. I work out with dumb bells in the pool for Water aerobics. If I overdue it, I'm really sore going home that evening. Now, I've heard that a port can flip over...... That is something you may want your doc to check.

I experienced a lot of pain doing the leg press surprisingly enough (Didn't realize I use my abs for that too)! When I asked the surgeon, he said he had sewn my port into the abdominal muscles and the pulling is what would cause me the pain.

Others here say their surgeon didn't sew down their port (?) but I would definitely say all the sit ups could be aggravating it. One idea would be to lay off those for a week for two and see if you still have pain running and on the eliptical.

If so, I may be tempted to call my Bariatric Center and see what they have to say...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
