Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Welcome Kalipso!

Some are doing a 5 day pouch test to jump start the weight loss again. It's a liquid diet to mushy then hard Protein diet. Kinda flushes the body of the carb addiction and bad habits we get into. I haven't done it yet, but I am seriously considering it! LOL

The beauty of the band is the fact that we can start over every day...there is always a chance to get back on track.

Do you exercise? What kind of food do you eat? Do you feel your band is tight now that you've been filled?

~Carol

hi carol! i have read about the pouch test but haven't tried it. although i almost had to do it after my last fill on 12/30/08. it was the first time ever that i could actually FEEL the band around my stomach, even without eating or drinking. i only had liquids for 2 days after my fill because i was afraid to eat. now i'm back to feeling "normal".... really feeling no restriction.

i usually have a Protein Drink for Breakfast, 1/2 cup of cheerios as a snack, 1/2 of a low carb wrap with cheese and turkey for lunch, a Protein drink as a snack and 1/2 a chicken breast for dinner.< /p>

i do admit to not exercising as much as i should. i do need to start using my wii fit!

Sounds like you are doing really well on your portions. I can't eat bread or Cereal. Never have been able to . It just seems to gum up and get stuck. Besides, I feel like the carbs are what got me into trouble in the first place so it's best for me to just avoid them.

I will make it back to the gym as soon as the last few stragglers of my visitors go home. I am antsy to get back into a routine. I felt so much better when I went to the gym.

I have a wii fit too, but I haven't used it in a while. It is so much fun. I really should get it out!

I live in Ohio too. Do you go to any support meetings? Cinci is a ways for you if you live in Cleveland!

K-

Sounds like your key is just going to be getting more restriction. Have you scheduled another fill? I am always tight for a couple days after a fill then it loosens up a bit.

Carol is right your portions are good as long as there isn't grazing in between those meals and Snacks (thats what I am guilty of) Carbs are something you will realy want to watch since you are not exercising (I am guilty of that too) Until you have great restriction you will have to stick with high Protein, low car and Portion Control like you have been doing.

Another update for me! I lost another pound this morning so I am really excited. I think thats 3lbs last week which is not normal at all for me. I am lucky to lose 4lbs a month.. I will take it though.

Since I failed miserably at the pouch test I have changed how I eat and wonder if it worked or if it's a coincidence. Most of my food the last few days has consisted of only shrimp, crab, mushroom, lobster. Everytime I feel hungry I made a mix of all of them about 2oz total each time. They seem to all be super good for you.

Shrimp is 40 calories and 9g protein

Crab (Blue lump) 45 calories and 11g protein

Lobster 27 calories and 6g protein

To supplement the lack of calories the last few days I added skim milk and had some wine in the evening (guilty)

We've been traveling all weekend. Restaurant food the whole time. Not healthy, but I can't eat much of it anyway. I've been really restricted the last few days. Lots of PBing... not sure why. Probably allergies.

Today is my last day off work. Back to the grindstone tomorrow. I have enjoyed the last two weeks off. I could get used to the whole not working thing. Too bad the paychecks don't continue to come if you don't work!

Ouch Brandy - Im sorry you are feeling poorly! I hope you feel better girl.

Finally - THANK GOODNESS - I had the good sense to go get a slight unfill today. I've been really stressed the last month (well to two) and PB'd almost any solids - so I stupidly ate sliders not to hurt myself. I went in today and got an unfill. I was able to EAT today! It's nice for my food not to come back and say HELLO! Pouch is also being agreeable...I ate less than 1/2 a baked potato for lunch...it was good. I'm going to make chicken salad for tonight - yummy!

Oh I can relate to this one.. I didn't get an unfill but the last fill was too tight and I just worked through it.... Christmas morning though I woke up and could finally eat what I think is the right amount. Even tho I am able to eat more in a sitting the weight has been coming off a little faster than it was. It doesn't pay to be too tight thats for sure.

But I would love to be able to eat anything right now without it involuntarily coming back up lol... Stupid flu bugs

I am good at sharing... I accidently forgot where I put the lysol or the antibacterial wipes. I must have misplaced them.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
