Pre=op diet - no food at all for 3 days! ?

I am getting banded on Monday and I am very excited. My doctor however has me on a pre-op diet for 3 days that has no food whatsoever. Just splenda drinks and no sugar popsicles.

Yikes- I am very committed but this seems ridiculous. I have never not eaten for 3 days in my life even when I was a hippie in the commune yuk yuk.

I'm not sure I can do this and I feel bad. I'm thinking maybe a few Protein shakes.

Will I go to Band Hell for defying my doctor?

that's exactly what my post-op diet is travelgirl...

The thing I remember most was right before it was time to move to the full liquids stage, I started getting really antsy about it, and let me tell you, that first spoonful of broccoli cheese Soup (whizzed up with a stick blender to get rid of the chunks) was manna straight from heaven. It was probably the best thing I've ever tasted in my entire life. LOL!:w00t:

It seems all doctors are different. I'm getting banded on March 6th and as of last wednesday I have been on a protein drink diet (one week before surgery) and water. That is all I can have! My problem is that the protein drinks are not bad except they all leave a chalky after taste in my mouth. I have to drink 3-6 a day and I'm finding it really hard to just drink 3. Any suggestions? The only other thing I can have is water and the bad part is that I'm still hungry (doesn't help smelling the food other people eat either). I know it is all worth it. I just wait until my surgery.

bamafever~ The doc that did my seminar today said that his pre-op was basically the Atkins induction phase...sounds similar to yours.

Yes, that is what they said. I hope I have been on it long enough to shrink my liver. I will have been on it 5 days before my surgery. I am getting very nervous today. Being put to sleep scares me so much.

My surgery is scheduled for March 6th and my doctor said not to gain any weight before surgery. That was all he told me to do.....
