March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Yes. It's easier to walk without hanging on - the arm movement stabilizes you.

Start slowly. 1 mph, 1.5 mph, increase it by .1 every minute, stop when you get to where you want to be. Listen to music (might I recommend LCD Soundsystem's 43:55, or something - a mix they did for Nike which starts off slowly, builds up, and keeps you moving. It's designed for runners, but I find it works well on the treadmill). Listening to music helps me move.

You've certainly walked at 3.5 mph during your regular days. Just relax, breathe, walk.

Sorry: it's 45:33.

That's the duration of the first mix, but if you download it from Amazon now it has a few extra songs on it to make it longer. The original has slow buildup, sustained pretty fast speed, then slows down towards the end of your work-out.

I did "okay" during the superbowl.......the chips and dip kept nagging at me....but didn't drink any alcohol and stayed away from the sweets....oh, and drank about a 55 gallon drum of water......salty things are always my downfall....UGH.

Paid my penance on the treadmill tonight, though.......I'm WHOOPED.....I do walk without holding on, but generally keep it around 3mph max....I have pretty short little legs, so that feels like a pretty good clip to me! My iPod is definitely my friend during a treadmill session. I have a playlist set out that keeps me going.....sometimes I just shuffle and skip through the slow songs if I'm bored with the playlist.

going to the gym - treadmeill is 3.5 incline with 3.5 mgh

I do start holding on, but let go after I get going.

Bicycle is also part of the workout, as is the elliptical.. then onto the weights and the machines, usually a good 1.5 hour workout with new things added every so often. I feel great when I am done, but have to push myself to get through the workout..

No suuper bowl game or Snacks for me. I had my grandson and we were watching "his" shows.. I am too old for these kid shows...:(

Enjoy the day everyone.

I use the varying Weight Loss programs on my treadmill so my incline ranges from 0 to 12 and my speeds vary from .5 to 3.5. I have a hard time keeping up with the 3.5 so usually back it down to 3 because I have short legs just like Harley, lol. I watch TV while I'm doing my treadmill, it keeps me motivated. I used to hold onto the rails but during one of the Biggest Loser shows Jillian was telling her people to let go of the rails because it gives you a better workout, so I gradually learned to let go of the rails and now do my walking without holding on. Just like Fenton suggests above, just slowly increase your speed and your balance will get better. I used to be afraid that I was going to fall off of mine too, but trust me you do get used to it.

:(

WTG Fenton!!!!!

Lots of issues with PBing.. not sure why, unless stress and cold weather. My daughter did move out Saturday, :( now I am busy getting my place back to how I want it for myself.

Back to the doctor on 2/17.. no fill for sure..but lots of discomfort around the port area. not sure if it is from some of the equipment at the gym or something else.

Oh. well. I keep myself busy and try to stay out of trouble!!!! shouldn't we all do the same.. OOPS.. sorry, new man in my life so I tend to get into trouble!!!!

Is anyone using a weighted vest? I started wearing one 3 days ago and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with one.

funny you should say this today. My trainer just told me he wants to start using one with me.

The guys at the firehouse use them all the time and say it is a good work out if you have good balance. Whatever that means.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
