Donuts are not worth it....what's your food that's not worth it???

Recommended Posts

I just slimed and pb'd a donut. I have never felt so sick to my stomach...I could literally taste the lard as the stinking thing was undulating in my stoma. NASTY.

Why did I even eat it? I wasn't hungry, I resisted temptation while everyone else ate one...and then I tried to eat one. WHY???

Well, I can tell you honestly...it will be a cold day in HELL before I ever ever EVER put a donut in my mouth.

blech..

So...what food is it for you that is so not worth it anymore...(And I know that we're not supposed to eat crap food anymore...but life happens and sometimes you have to accept that crap food is sometimes a part of life ie...birthday cakes)....

DONUTS SUCK!

Hi Rain:

Sorry you got sick. Good thing it was on a donut though.

Cold day in hell before I eat tuna fish again because of getting stuck, dr. sent me to e.r., had to have a cat scan, morphine for pain, etc. That happened my second week on mushies post surgery - hadn't even been filled yet. I wish it had been something good, like a donut!

Too bad ice cream, potato chips, and chocolate chip Cookies don't get stuck easy:wink_smile:! Willpower and smart choices keep us going, but every once in a while a person needs a small treat.

I can remember before support group one week a woman was talking about having eaten an entire whopper at burger king. I was almost sick thinking about the pain that would have caused me. She said it went down fine.

Better luck next time you eat something yummy:ohmy:!

Sue

Shrimp! I have had shrimp ONCE since the band, and I didn't chew it properly.

Not only did I slime and pb, but it came up through my nose.

I'll never look at shrimp quite the same again.

I have been lucky so far. I have not had anything get stuck and I haven't slimed. But for me I would say hamburgers are not worth it for me. I have only had 1 since surgery and it took me for ever to chew the bun and the meat. Plus when you have to chew it to mush it taste like crap. I have found alot of things that I use to love to eat that now I can't stand.

I am a big donut lover, so this was a good thing for me to see. I have not had anything make my slime or PB yet but I did eat some fat free cheesecake and ice cream thinking that I would be ok but since they would slide down but I was very wrong. I started to get the pain about 30 minutes later. Valueable lesson learned.

I didn't have them get stuck...but french fries. I used to LOVE Wendy's french fries. Didn't have them from pre-op until about a week ago (3 months of fry sobriety) and I thought I was going to gag. NASTY.

Cakey bready burrito type things spell trouble for me. Funnily enough I can still have pizza though - weird huh?

eggs are the biggest no-no for me though. Last time I had scrambled eggs we were on holidays and I spent almost 2 hours sliming and pbing and sweating profusely while feeling like I was going to pass out/die in an unlit public toilet cubicle in a small town we'd traveled to to have a look at all the touristy things there. Bad bad experience.

Potatoes. I can eat mashed potatoes, but it has to be very, very slowly. Baked potatoes and home fries, on the other hand, are evil little beasts. I've gotten them both stuck twice since my fill last week. I've not PB'd anything, but I get the huge lump golfball in the chest feeling and DANG that hurts! I need to avoid potatoes completely depending on how they are cooked.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing that I CAN'T eat, but I am going to paste the doughnut warning in my brain to save me from temptation. Thank goodness I don't have Sue's problem with tuna, because I eat it 5 times a week. The mental image of having shrimp come out my nose (Gloucester) made me howl, but it was probably not funny while it was happening. I have yet to PB, but I have had my share of improperly-chewed bites that jammed in my throat for a few minutes making my eyes Water and reminding me to SLOW DOWN.

Steak is no good for me. I haven't gotten stuck on that or anything else- but steak just doesn't taste good anymore after 30 chews and it's still chunky & dry....Ick! I spit it out without trying to swallow.

I'd have to agree - donuts. Ick. Scones, muffins, etc I enjoy but they're very dangerous foods. But donuts dont even taste good any more - they are just instant pain. And I mean what I call a donut which in Australia is a bit different to those utterly disgusting Krispy Kreme things - I couldnt stand those even when I didnt have a band.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
