Nontraditional Curse Words

Recommended Posts

I swear like a sailor. Not in professional settings, but at home and a little more frequently around children than I probably should. It's hard when you don't have any children around you, you don't even think twice about it.

As for made up words, more ruralites where I live will use phrases like "Dag blasted." A friend's family considers "fart" a bad word so they have to say "toot" instead. My mother tried to make my father quit swearing around me, so he started saying "Jumpin-gee-hossefat".

A friend of my husband's taught his kids to play off a swear word, like they're saying something else. For example, his little boy will say, "Oh shit...ake mushroom!"

So on the window of my office is the unofficial list of "non-swear swear words"....most from my IT boys.....

here is the list, it keeps being added to.....note that these curses are most effective on electronic devices but can be used universally....

1) Ganked - as in "this server is really ganked up, isn't it?"

2) horked - same use as above

3) booched - same use as above

4) Gorrum - dunno how it gets used....don't know who added it but I sort of like it

5) frak - as in "what the frak happened here?"

6) fsck - this one is better when writing...it's an actual techie term for something that happens in storage devices.....it looks real bad but isn't. As in "so and so needed to just fsck himself"...which lends itself to the techie humor as the storage devices do run fsck on themselves.....oh god I work with geeks!!

Oh....and my boyfriend in college, a beautiful cowboy...he used to use "son of your mother"....as in "why you son of your mother, why did you go and do that??"

Sue and Bright... both of your um phrases caused the immediate ejection of diet green tea out of both of my nostrils.

I have a 5 year old so I have to be careful... He learned all of his "swear words" from Spongebob. When he gets frustrated he yells "Oh, barnacles!" or "Tartersauce!".

My new favorite expletive came out of effing but needed an abbreviation b/c of how fast life moves. Now I just exclaim "FNA" (instread of effing A)

I use "Flipping" in place of the dreaded F-ing. It works on several levels for me. I work in the mortgage business - and a Flip transaction is a bad thing in the mortgage business - so flipping is bad.

Plus - If you want to tell somebody F-U in sign language, it's Flipping the bird...

It's Flipping Fabulous!!

My daughter-in-law and her sister were out shopping for dresses and they were in the petite women's section. The saleslady came to help and referred them to the larger women's dresses. They were not happy to be helped in such a way. The sister said "F...k you very much!"

Ouch!:heh:

Quote Kathy:Swearing is a hard habit to break, and I'm glad I abstain for the most part. It kind of "hurts my ears" when I hear others rattle off, especially "GD", THAT I have a hard time with, is that a Southern thing? To not like to hear GD, that is, or is it just a NC or SE ID thing?

I think it is a southern thing cause it bothers me when someone says that. To me it is like blasphemy, but that is just my opinion no need for a rebuttal. I use Mother Father for the MF word. I don't use it much but well in my mind it is more acceptable in public. Oh yeah Dammit to Hell is another crowd pleaser. Oh yeah and if you cut me off in traffic or are not driving like you are supposed to I call you a chickenmonkey! LOL

Freakin' fun thread! lol

I curse like a sailor (well, I'm still married to one for now, so I guess it's all right...), and have even started to stop stopping myself in front of my folks. I won't do it around kids or at work, and I don't do it a lot around them, but occasionally, the f word is the only word that conveys the message /wink.

Here's a cute story. A friend of mine's sister use to curse all the time even though the friend tried to get her to stop around her kids. One day they were pouring fish shaped cat food into the bowl and her 2 yr. old said, "Look at those F---ing fish!" :hat: I can't see fish shaped cat food without thinking about that even now and it's been 20 yrs. ago. The sister tried to cut back after that. Of course we all lol about when the kids weren't around!

A few of mine are "fark", "frick", "idabejeesus" and passed down from my Irish mom from her Irish mom and so on; "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!"

lol

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
