tenacious tens-what are your intolerable foods so far

Recommended Posts

I have 4cc's in a 10cc band which seems to be a good level for me at the moment. I find chicken is the worst thing for me, especially breast meat. The trouble I have, is that my family loves to buy a grilled chicken burger on the weekend, and I will have just the meat and salad; some places will serve you thigh meat, some breast.

Once, when I had breast without realising, I had an awful PB episode - in the car, with three kids in the back! I don't think I have ever been more embarrassed in my life!

So these days, I will just have the salad and a few french fries. I have learned my lesson!

I haven't found any foods that I can't eat.

I've only 'slimed' once (and purposely did a PB in respsonse). A few days after a fill I was back on solids. I went out to eat with a friend about 15 minutes after waking up. I got some noodles. Since I had just had a fill I wanted to be safe and eat something I knew would go down easily just in case since this was my first fill with real restriction.

Well, the noodles clogged up good and I slimed for the one and only time. I got a stuck feeling and it wouldnt go away. After a few minutes of feeling awful and it not going down, I went to the bathroom, leaned over the link thinking I would spit out maybe a piece of noodle I hadnt chewed good. Instead, a few bits of chewed up noodle came out and a ton of clear mucus. So gross. It was like a huge drooly blob of clear slime. Yuck.

I instantly felt better though and was able to continue eating although I chewed my noodles to liquid for that meal. I'm tighter in the morning. I've gotten a couple of stuck feelings since then but only for a few seconds.

My biggest problem now is that this is the point in a diet where I would normally fail and quit. The band won't let me though. I've been eating pretty unhealthily lately... I'm still losing though. The band is working well for me. I keep the Protein up, but I keep giving in to bad choices. When I follow the band rules, I lose 3 pounds a week. Eating whatever I want I lose 1 pound. I need to get back on track. I think I'm falling into my old habbit of thinking "It's been a bad/hard/long day, I will cheat tonight to lift my mood". But then it takes less and less of a bad day to get me cheating.

Oops! Sorry, I got way off track!! I haven't been on here much lately...

CHICKEN!!!!! mY GOD DOES chicken GET STUCK NEARLY EVERY TIME. I also had an extremely painful episode with grilled tuna. I can eaat bread only if it is toasted for some reason. Small amounts of rice are not that bad. I got like 6 cc's in a 10 cc band after 2 fills. Mornings are a no no for solid food. fI am thinking of buying stock in slim fast since it seems to be a staple of my diet. the one thing that amazes me is beef Jerky. I have absolutely no problem with beef jerky as tough as it is. MY worst pain ever was with a piece of fried chicken. I have not even got the nerve to try it again.

chicken is a big problem for me also, I eat a lot of tuna (but the can stuff.. not grilled). About a week after surgery I chomped down on a pretzel. Talk about PAIN, I almost had a near death experience! Haven't done that again. Someone suggested turkey sliced very thin and I did ok with that. For those of you drinking Slim Fast.. do you get the low carb stuff? I'm trying to stick with the high Protein, low carb diet and that stuff is actually quite good. Better than Atkins but Atkins is drinkable.

Down 30 lbs since Oct 24. Still haven't figured out how to put that Weight loss ticker on my profile.

yes I only get the low carb slim fast. It contains the Iron that my body needs. the chocolate one is my favorite flavor.

you are so right about beef Jerky. I can't get enough of the beef or turkey jerkey. I know buy the individual packet from costco and carry a pack with me.

I just got filled a couple of weeks ago (my 3rd one) and it was too tight. I was on liquids for the 2 days afterwards, then on the 3rd day I couldn't even get Water down. So an hours drive from work back up to the doctor to get a slight unfill.

I think I'm at my 'sweet spot' now (after his unfill), but I do find myself being lazy and eating things I know I won't have a problem with. My main foods are skim milk (with or without Instant Breakfast), cottage cheese (but that can hurt now even if I chew chew chew, cheese stix (for some reason, those go right down).

I'm having problems with eggs now, chicken, lettuce, ANYTHING with flour in it (it just SITS there). Before I could eat maybe ONE piece of pizza as a special treat. Now it's so painful and the sliming has me off pizza (maybe for the rest of my life).

Impulsive grabbing something to put in my mouth, not chewing enough and NOT eating slowly are still my worst enemies...

Hi everyone. Im not a big poster so I thought I'd change that by jumping in here. I have problems with a few foods... here's my list

Breads (unless chewed so well that its not worth it to eat it)

Yams

Green Beans

Scrambled eggs (boiled works - go figure)

Dry meats (anything cooked too long wont go down)

Most noodles (unless the sauce is really slippery)

There are still a few things I havent tried yet like Shrimp - because I"ve heard its a problem food. Past that most things are tolerated well.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
