Ok this is a crazy question ... and I am not trying to be immature or gross anyone out. But what's up with bowel movements and the band!! I have had a few bowel movements since being banded (Feb 6th a week 2morrow) but it's kinda forced. Called the Dr he said get some Phillips Milk of Magnesium and I did ... I kinda had runs for like 2-3 days cause I am still on liquids. But why isn't it like everyday like it used to be pre-band?!?! That scares me ... I am smart enough to know that my bowels are supposed to move atleast 2-3 times per day! Has this affected anyone else ... will it change soon. But I do hear alot of noises in my stomach than I did before I was banded LOL dont know whats going on in there LOL! But glad to say I am now down 27 pounds! Ready to get rid of this 6 pounds before I go back to the docs office on the 25th. I wanna be 299 or below LOL! I know it sounds crazy but I haven't seen the 2's in yrs! But please help I wanna take a sh!t LOL :scared2:... oh yeah and I must admit I have to get more Water and Protein in ... I will start 2morrow I have to pick up some more protein!:wink2:

Hey girlie, it was easily almost two weeks before I had to #2 at all. I didn't feel backed up or anything I just didn't have to go. I guess just from being on liquids my body was peeing it out rather than the other. And when it did decide it was time (just around the 2 week mark) there was no need for Milk of Magnesia or anything - it just happened and normally. But now I definitely don't #2 everyday like before - MAYBE every 2-3 days and I'm on pureed/mushies now.

Well done on the weight loss so far - keep kick @$$.

It's funny you started this thread, because I have been experiencing the same difficulty and it's gotten worse in the last few weeks!

So-o-o, I have now added metamucil to my daily regimen of Vitamins, Calcium, concentrated black cherry juice (for gout I had 2 weeks ago)!! And yes, it certainly has helped in that area--but I must say that the gas that accompanies it is a bit disconcerting!!

So I weigh it: Constipation versus going well and having gas??!! I guess it has to be the latter!! (And like you, I am now drinking a minimum of 40 ounces of Water a day, along with all the other liquids I'm infusing!!)

Good luck to you! :scared2:

sadly...it's a common thing...and it lasts long...

partly because of a huge decrease in food intake...

partly because of lack of Fiber

Make sure you drink your Water like a crazy woman...

take benefiber (they are chewables)...or you can get the powder that goes in your drink...

Either way, later on...as you are able to eat more and exercise more, you'll find it happening more frequently...but for now, it is less frequent.

Good luck and congrats on your loss thus far!

I'm pre-op and have been worried about this subject because I already have issues, like I go every 2-3 days now. I'm gonna be down to like twice a month!

I used to be very regular but not any more. I now go every 2 - 3 days. I am not constipated I just don't eat enough and definitely don't eat enough Fiber. I take Benefiber when I remember. I am also trying to eat more veggies.

I was NEVER an everyday kind of girl, but it's now more like every five days. I do use benefiber in my flavored Water, it hasn't change the frequency in movements, but they are not uncomfortable to pass. They were before I added the benefiber.

Tried to say that as delicate as I could!

You'll never go back to the 2-3 times a day. If you ask people what they REALLY do, most of the time it's not like that at all. Generally, people go from once a day to once every 2-3 days. You'll probably go for the latter category.

Oh, and for the person who said that they already go every 2-3 days, chances are you may add a day or so if it even happens that way. I wouldn't get scared about it.

EDIT: Keep in mind that everybody is different, though. Don't slack on the Water and fiber. Both of those are fantastic to promote normal GI movement.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
