Hi March-ers!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all and congrats on becoming a bandster in March!!:)

I have not yet received my date, although, I got my approval last week and my pre-op is set for the 21 of February.. They told me to expect the first or second week in March, no later:) YAY!! I have been working on this process since July of last year, so to say the least, I was thrilled to get a vague idea:) It seems that everyone got their surgery date really early on?? They don't even submit me for a date until the day of my pre-op.. Hurry up and wait, right? lol.. Looking forward to this journey with you all!

Hi Kerri,

I am not actually a March Bandster, I am an "oldie", but I wanted to say hi and welcome you to the forums. It sounds like things are moving along for you. Let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Kerrie Marie! Congratulations on your approval and good luck with your surgery! Looking forward to sharing our journey with all the Marchers! Hey all, if you're interested, a friend of mine that has had great success with this surgery sent me a link to watch the actual surgery on YouTube if anyone is interested. I found it fasinating to watch but of course use your own discretion. Here's the link: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5ICI9q7nxU]YouTube - Lap Band Surgery[/ame]

My friend by the way was banded in August 07 and has lost 81 lbs so far! He looks fabulous too. Isn't that amazing! 81 lbs in 6 months?!

Take care everyone! Counting down the days until March 3rd!!!

Hello, my fellow March bandsters. I'm scheduled for surgery on March 12th, by Dr. Eric Pinnar in Reston, VA. I'm very excited, nervous and just so ready. I know this is going to be the best decision I've ever made for myself. I do wish I had done this 5 years ago when I first read about lapband; however, you can't go back in time...No matter, I'm doing this now and I'm still sort of young, 46!

I feel so lucky and thankful to have so many of my family and friends support me in this very important step in my healthy life. Also I'm so happy to have found this site -- not only because it happens to focus on the lap-band procedure, but because it's absolutely refreshing to find so many genuinely nice and caring people who opening share their experiences and support with others... and all just because everyone here want others to succeed as well.

Cheers to you all and here we go...!

Sheri

Hi Sheri! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date. It seems like there are quite a few of you that have the surgery date of March 12th. I couldn't agree with you more Sheri, this site is so informative and has the best people as members. Everyone is so supportive, welcoming, caring, and happy to share their experiences. I as well have great support at home but having you all here that are in the same boat is awesome.

HECK yeah 46 is still very young! I'm 43 and am glad I'm doing this now. I met a woman that was 62 and had this procedure done and had lost over 100 lbs. She was so happy she did it and said she felt 20 years younger! So we should feel like we are in our 20's I'm thinking! lol WAHOO!!! Take care Sheri the best of luck to you!

Terri

Thanks, Terri! You're right, we're as young as we feel... and we're going to feel a heck of a lot younger after the band! We may need curfews pretty soon! LOL...

Good luck on your surgery on the 3rd. Can't wait to hear from you.

TTFN (Ta Ta For Now)

LosingIt08... you're right about the daisey tickers... too funny. I picked them because I think of Daisey's as such happy little flowers...

I'm here...FINALLY! I am penciled in for the 12th. They said it may be moved to the 19th when I come in for my preop appointment based on the surgeon's schedule. For now I am going to plan for the 19th and will just be pleasantly surprised if it happens earlier.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
