I can't vote because I already had an unfill before I got pregnant. I had terrible problems with acid reflux in December. When I got back from visiting family for the holidays I went straight to my doctors. They gave me a complete unfill. I was doing much better and planning on getting a fill in June when I found out I was pregnant. But even with no fill, I still have a little restriction at times.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and have lost 19lbs so far. I have had terrible morning sickness. My mom had the same with me and my sister so maybe it's hereditary. Just this week I finally have had some luck keeping food down or feeling well enough to eat at all.

Midwife said not to worry unless I don't start getting better after the first trimester. Baby is getting all it needs, it's just me that is depleted. But now that I'm starting to eat again, I can see the light!!!

Hi! I'm new here, but I had to stop and say congratulations!! I am really happy for you. As you know, people can be really stupid and judgemental, but don't let it get to you. Don't even let it get you the least bit angry. It's an opinion and ONLY an opinion that they have. Yes, it is absurd that they would try to make you feel bad or even imply that you should have your baby taken away over a fill.

I have not gotten the band yet, but I hope to soon. I was lucky when I got pregnant with my son 6.5 years ago. Of course, I was a lot smaller than I am now and at the time I was going to the gym and had lost over 50 pounds, so getting pregnant was a snap back then. HOWEVER, during the pregnancy I gained over 50 pounds, lost 25, then regained the 25 pounds plus a lot more, and am now over 100 pounds heavier than I was then, which made me have polycystic ovaries I guess. Anyway, I would love to have another baby and hopefully it won't take too long until I can get the band and maybe be able to have another baby. I am 37 now, so I hope it will be soon. Sorry to make it so long, but I think it's great you are having a baby. Congrats and enjoy your pregnancy!!

I have just found out that I am having twins... My restriction (jamie summers I like to call her) has gone on vacation... I can eat and eat and eat... so I am not planning an unfill unless that changes... If it does the little ones come first... those of you who know me this has been a long time and coming (tired for 6 years.) I can't wait until I am a little further and start to show... wow is that me wanting to look fat... YEP!

Hi, I'm new here and just found out that I'm pregnant. I had a fill scheduled for tomorrow because I've got no restriction. Long story, but I had my one year post op EGD where they took out all my Fluid and then afterward put to much in and I couldn't even swallow my saliva. So then I went back in and they took too much out. So I'm up at least 8 lbs. now...I called my doctor to cancel my appt. but they told me to come in for a total unfill. I am totally freaking out because I can eat a ton right now and I'm only about 5 weeks at this point. I go to the OB on Monday. A friend of mine suggested this website and I'm so thankful I did...now I know other people are going through similar things too! It's also nice to hear that people chose when to go in for unfills based on their personal situation-I thought I didn't have a choice!

hi avasmommy.

first off - congrats on your pregnancy!!

second - it should really be you and your OB's decision about your fill level. can you call and talk to your surgeon??

Called my surgeon's office this week just to dbl checked and they confirmed that as long as morning sickness isn't an issue and I'm able to meet caloric guidelines, the fill can stay. So far my OB doesn't have an issue with what I'm eating or the amount of weight I've lost. In fact I'm up 3# in fluids, because I'm making myself drink more Water than I normally do and the increase hasn't adjusted out yet. I can eat & eat & eat... if I do it at night. :mad2:

I think it all has to be seen in perspective. Since posting here that I'm knocked up, I've gotten several encouraging messages, and about 3 "hate mails" telling me how horrible I am for still having a fill, how I would deserve a miscarriage for starving my baby, how I should have the baby taken away from me, etc. That's so absurd. People with bypass have babies all the time, I know 3 personally, all of their babies are healthy (one is now 4 y/o) and if they're doing it right, a bypass patient isn't going to eat more than we can with a little effort. But WLS aside - we aren't the only ones who eat 1000 - 1200 calories a day. The BMR for the average build, females around 29, is 1200 - 1400. Granted that's BMR, so just factor in the difference and it's really not "super" different. You don't have to gain excessive fat during pregnancy to have a healthy baby. (So all you haters, stop sending me messages because I haven't gained 20 lbs @ 9wks.)

THAT IS CRAZY! TO RECEIVE THOSE KINDA MESSAGES.:) I'M READING THIS THREAD CAUSE I MIGHT BE PG??? BUT IF MY DOCTORS AGREE THAT I CAN KEEP MY FILLS, DARN RIGHT I AM!!!!! AFTER ALL THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF THE LAPBAND! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GIRL.

Congrats bushbaby....twins!!! Wow, rest up now, you'll need it later.

Congrats to you too avasmommy. When's your due date? Mine's been changed to April 2nd. My mother is thrilled because the April birthstone is a diamond for her "grandmother ring" LOL!!

I think it's insane for people to judge one another regarding fills during pregnancy. My OB has dealt with several pregnant bypass patients but never a bandster. She said if bypassers can have a healthy pregnancy, she doesn't see the need for me to get a total unfill unless I'm having difficulty eating healthy foods.

I CAN FINALLY POST HERE! YAY! I am 13 weeks pregnant, but I didn't vote because I haven't gotten an unfill. I haven't been to my band doctor, but my OB says that as long as I don't LOSE weight, I should be fine. I've been maintaining 204 with my current fill.

I definitely had morning sickness, but I think it's just because I couldn't keep my stomach full...I couldn't eat enough. I can still only eat 3 to 7 bites per meal (depending on the time of day). I'm a teacher, and I just had to go back to school. Early mornings are hard for me because I can't eat to keep my stomach full. I also live in the mountains, so, without my full stomach, I'm struggling with motion sickness. It sucks, but oh well.

I also have to give myself shots twice a day (I have Factor V Leiden)--bloodthinners. Not fun and my belly is nice and bruised.

Okay, enough complaining! I'm SOOO enjoying being pregnant! It's been great fun! And, because I lost so much weight, I've been showing for awhile. They say that you show early in your second pregnancy because your skin is already stretched out. Well, with the weight loss, my skin was definitely stretched out, so I'm totally showing. WAY cool!

Good luck to all of you new mommies out there!

I've been tight since my last fill, but it was managable. Starting a week ago, it was like suddenly someone pumped a lot of saline into my band, and I can't get anything solid down. So I called my doc when I got back in town Tuesday, they couldn't get me in till Sept. 8th. Later Tuesday I found out I was pregnant, so I assume the super tight came on due to this. I've been dancing with my doctor to get in ASAP for an unfill. No morning sickness thank goodness, but I'm paranoid that if it DOES hit, I can hardly swallow liquids without pain, I don't even want to know what vomiting would feel like right now. Suppose to go Monday (unless they change it-pending), and I have 2.5cc in a 4cc band.. going to ask him to take it to 1.5cc and go from there.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
