Need some advice - I am still in a LOT of pain 2 weeks after surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok, i was banded on 16th Jan and everything went well. I got out of hospital the next day.

I had a lot of tearing pain internally around my port, but two weeks on, I am still in a LOT of pain there.

All my other incisions have cleared up well.

My port incision is clearing up, i did have a slight infection at one end of it, but i got onto it right away and am still on amoxil Syrup.< /p>

I went back to the surgeon a week ago cos of the pain near the port incision and he ordered an ultrasound in case it was a haematoma or something. I had that done tues am and there was no problem they could see.

I spoke to his receptionist on wed this week and she said he wants me to call back today if the pain is no better as he is thinking of re-locating the port (ie going back in).

I went to my gp yesterday and she just told me to go home and rest.

the pain is bad when i sit, but really not there when i'm lying down or standing. but it's really really bad when i sit... and of course my job involves a lot of sitting.

so, has anyone had any problems like this? what did you do? i am worried that if he re-locates the port, i might still have the pain, just somewhere else. My gp was also thinking this and i didnt put the idea in her head.

I am really confused as to what to do. Everything else has been fine. I am on mushies and doing well. No problems eating, so internally everything appears to be going well.

I'd really appreciate any feedback... especially if anyone has had a similar problem.

I had my surgery on December 17th. The first 3 or so weeks, the port area hurt alot, sometimes it still hurts, but not enough for me to stop doing what I'm doing. It will get better. Hang in there for another week or so and see what happens.

Thea,

I still get pain at what I assume is my port site if I wear pants that are in any way constricting (I am 11 days postop). Luckily I am a nurse and scrub pants are elastic waisted. I put on a pair of loose jeans 2 days ago and it about killed me! Have you been wearing things that constrict in any way? I didn't think that the jeans did, but when I sat down the jeans seemed to push everything up and over if you know what I mean. Does it still hurt if you are sitting in pajamas or a gown?

I got some "zingers" around the port area still up to 6 weeks post-surgery. I thought it was unusual too to still have pain at 2 weeks po, I was still sleeping in a reclining position. It eventually went away...I would say that at about week 3, it started to feel better, but I still had some pain. Anyway, then I found out week 8 po that my port had flipped so part of the pain I had experienced was my port coming unstitched from the muscle. Since I had my revision surgery, it is like night day, the pain I had from the 1st surgery was awful in the port area. The revision surgery port pain went away in about a week.

Be patient and take it easy. Good luck!!

hey lucyb

no, i'm not wearing anything even remotely restrictive. i get the pain all the time when sitting... even if i just have a nightie on and nothing else.

so it's nothing to do with restrictive clothing. I cant even imagine wearing restrictive clothing right now!

Hi...I was just getting ready to start a thread about this. I am 4 weeks post-op and have felt GREAT! The port pain was gone until this morning. I work up and it was sore again. Is this normal?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
