Help! I'm so discouraged! What's wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

I keep reading all of the experiences everyone has with the band and I can't believe that I'm not feeling the same thing. I keep going back to my doctor for more fills because I just don't feel much restriction. To make a long story short, I went back to my doctor two days ago complaining that I still don't feel restriction. At that point I was at 9ccs in a 10cc band. I'm not loosing weight and he doesn't believe me when I tell him that I'm able to eat just about anything. He accused me of drinking with my meals and eating soft foods and said that that's the reason I'm not loosing. I got my band 9 months ago and have NEVER had a drink with my meal and have never had a drink for at least 30 minutes after my meal since the surgery.

I'm able to eat anything...steak...bread (I could eat a loaf of white bread if I wanted)...ham...hamburger... I mean anything. He just keeps telling me that I need to go on a better diet to loose the weight. Well, I agree with him, but why did I get the band if I don't get the benefits of restriction?

Does anyone know...could my band be placed incorrectly? Why don't I have restriction? I keep asking him if something could be wrong and he keeps saying that it's my fault. He won't do x-rays or anything to see how everything is going down. I keep asking him and he won't.

From what I've read on here, there are people who can't even eat a banana. I think that I could eat a whole chicken with no problem. What's Wrong?

I would go to another doc that will use a fluroscope. They can see the placement of the band, they can see how your pouch is; and they can see how quickly the Fluid goes through your band.

This doc sounds like a quack that he won't even look to make sure everything is ok.

Granted the diet is important. We have to make better attempts. My doc told me this wouldn't do me any good if was going to suck down milkshakes and eat cheesecake all day long. I don't do this and I'm not saying that you do. If you are following the rules of Protein first and all of that and it's not working, then you need a fill or something else is wrong.

Find another doc!!

{{hugs}} to you

I've asked the doc for a barium swallow, but he always redirects. I could see another doctor, but do you think I should?

Yes!! I do :frown:

I've had 3 barium swallows with mine. If you can eat that much then there should be concern as to whether or not the pouch is dilated. You're not in pain so that's good but a dilation would need attention as well.

Even without that possibility, you should be able to have your request honored. This has gone on for 9 months??

How much quantity can you eat at one meal? Do you ever get stuck, PB, get the golfball in the chest feeling? You said you're not drinking Water so you aren't washing food through. How many calories are you eating on an average day?

Hi,

My doctor told me before being banded that it doesn't work for 15% of people. Maybe your experiencing this, I hope not.

wow that is so strange. i dont know what is wrong with you , but i dont think the doctor is trying hard enough to solve the problem. i know that i dont eat much and i follow the rules , and i lose slower than many. but, my doctor doesnt accuse me of lying. that is totally unexceptable..... i hope you find a new doc and get it figured out. can you let us know.

I agree with what everyone else has said...but would like to add that you might try going on liquids for 3-4 days. If your pouch has dilated, this is a good way to help it get back to its proper condition.

Gee, I would love to know where you were banded because this sounds exactly like the jackoff that banded me, and yes, I fired him. When I got my records, I discovered that the fills he listed did not match up with what he was telling me that he was injecting.

I got suspicious when I noticed that he was hiding the syringe in his hand and making sure I didn't see it before the "fill", so I went to another doctor. When they withdrew all the Fluid in my band, there were less than 8cc, he had told me a total of 12.5cc! They checked for leaks but everything was fine. Turns out, he was faking my fills!

I hope this is not the case for you, but you never know. Some surgeons have a God complex and the kind of things he is saying to you sounds just like the quack that I had. By the way, I am on the Eastern shore of Maryland if anyone is wondering.

I have heard of phantom fills as well. I'd go to another doc and have the Fluid checked out. Everytime I get a fill they totally take all out and then put it back in (it's a pressurized needle or something like that). Anyhow, I am over 1/2 filled and can also eat nearly everything. I am only losing now because I'm on Weight Watchers. Totally sucks to have paid $8,500 and now have to be on WW. Why have the surgery? BUT, the band does help me to not be starving all day while dieting which I felt before any time I tried to diet. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I follow, and really like, the Body for Life program, and it works great. I did not have any restriction until I went to a new doc in August (9mos after banding), and I still have only minimal restriction now, but I have lost 102 lbs doing the BFL program. I like that I don't have to weight and measure etc., its all about Portion Control and frequent meals to ramp up your metabolism.

Anyone interested in a summary can PM me and I will be happy to share, but I won't bore everyone with the details unless requested.

Along with agreeing that you should find another doctor, I also think that you should compare what you *can* eat with whether or you are hungry. For a lot of people the band helps with hunger, even without restriction portions "forcefully". Hope that makes sense.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
