Recommended Posts

HI... i am not a teen but my kids are i have twin girls 13 years old. They are struggling with their weight and i feel bad for them because i know they are uncomfortable and also kids in school can be mean.... They are sooo beautiful inside and out and i feel sooo guilty because i have the lap band and i am eating such smaller portions and for them its hard to eat smaller portions because they are not restricted.. I actually feel bad losing weight. I am going to look into getting them banded. i just want to wish all of you good luck in your weight loss journey...and remember.... "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"

Awww can understand how that would be hard for you, you never know kids are quite strong willed, maybe if they see you loosing the weight it might inspire them to stick to diet and exercise, so they dont need the band

Is 13 too young for the band? Im glad im getting it sooner rather than later cus i want to enjoy myself whilst im young, but i dont think my parents would have agreed if i was any younger than this there firs question was "surely shes too young" lol

xXx

I think maybe your daughters will see you losing weight & be inspired to do the same. My sister & I both weigh about the same, but she isn't getting banded because of insurance issues. She's told me that she has noticed a difference in her eating habits & I've noticed her losing a little weight.

My parents would have wanted me to get banded when I was like 11 or 12 if I was able to. I actually went in for my first consult a year before I got banded.

Well, I'm glad you're here. Talking to my sisters about eating with the band is starting to really get to me.

Hey there, i'm brad, im new here! Just wanted to say hi to everyone. Im currently 17, will be 18 on the 13th of Feb. I currently weigh about 300lbs, and im seriously considering the band as an option. My mom had gastric bypass (i call it the hardcore version because they actually sliced her open) haha. Anyways, what were some of your experiences of the whole banding process? Does it hurt? how much weight could a guy like me (6' 1" 300lbs) be expected to loose? Thanks in advance!

Welcome! I'm four weeks banded & I've been very happy with it. The whole process went pretty fast for me. It was two weeks to surgery once my doctor got the approval letter & it took me about a week to recover enough to go back to work. I think your doctor would be best suited to tell you how much you'd be expected to lose.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
