Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bandsters,

I have not posted lately but I read the post frequently. I am glad to see we have a lot of new bandsters. Welcome to all of you. I had a fill a few weeks ago and was too full. I had to go back and they removed half of what they put in. I was totally miserable with my band too full. I still have to be very careful not to eat too much. I am thinking I may be getting near my "sweet spot". I can't hold a lot of food.

I am so thankful people like Phil and Janet keep posting. Both of you have been such an inspiration to me. It's comforting to see your post and knowing you are there to keep inspiring us. By the way, I have lost 45 pounds now and its been 5 months. I am pretty pleased with that. I am trying to get some relief for my left knee so I can walk more often. I am going to PT now and if that doesn't help, I am going to have Hialgon injections in it..Dread that so hopefully the PT will help. Take care everyone.

You're sweet!

I haven't yet experienced being too tight... think I'm in a good place right now. And I can relate to your knee problems. I've had a partial replacement on the right... several years ago.. like about 2002, I think?? I saw an orthopedic surgeon last week and was hoping maybe a partial would "fix" the left, but after looking at the x-rays he says I need a total on BOTH! Not the news I was hoping to get! In the years preceding the first knee surgery, I had both steroid injections and halagen. I know many people get months of relief with the halagen, but I really didn't get any benefit from them at all. The steroid injections, on the other hand, relieved my pain for quite a few months...maybe six even. The injections themselves, while not a walk in the park, are not nearly as painful as you anticipate.

I hope you get some relief from them.

Phil: I had both knees totally replaced last year. One in February, then thanks to therapy, one in May. I'll tell you what! Just like the Band, I'd do it again.. There are some days it might get sore, but you move it around, and the pain is gone. I am so gratefull that they cut all that Arthritic bone away, and replaced it with Titanium, and plastic.

Today I was out doing my Gardening, Taking care of the Grass, Walking around at a large Fle Market. I could have never done this before. They were to bad of. Even the shots in the right knee. The steroids would leek right out because of the holes in the bone. So trust me when I say I couldn't be happier. My only problem is now there talkig about replacing a shoulder. I don't even want to go there... Shirley

How was the rehab, Shirley?? Did they make you do inpatient or outpatient? I guess I wouldn't mind a few days of inpatient, and there are two different PT facilities a block away from where we live.. maybe they'd send me to one of them for outpatient rehab. I'm thinking of doing them maybe a month apart. But they'd have to get me in quick because we have a 3 wk cross country train trip planned for the end of July. I'm not able to do much walking at all right now. I've been using an electric scooter for several years. It gets me around the mall, Wal-Mart, costco, etc. Couldn't shop without it. Yeah, I'm worried aobut one shoulder, too... the pain is intermittent right now, but some days I can't stand my bra strap! And lately I've been hearing and feeling grinding in there. Ugh!

I thought maybe I needed a fill. I was careless this evening with my chewing and got my dinner stuck. That hasn't happened in so long.

I am glad in a way, even though it was so painful, because I really was debating on whether or not I needed a fill. It really showed me that

the band is in control and I need to eat like a bandster, even though

I have been at my sweet spot for so long.

Well,, while in the Hospital, Therapy comes to you, and they work you.

When I was going home. I told the Case Manager I wanted a PT to come to my house. "NO PROBLEM!! BETTER HANDS ON CARE" Then the Dr. sent me to a facilitey for out patient. Now for the other knee. He skipped the out patient care. He said "you know what to do. "

The best thing is just take your time, and walk. I don't know what state you live in? My guess is you would have to travel here to Mich., if interested. I have a great Dr., with a great track record. I would highley recomend him. Especially after hearing all the nightmares that i've heard. He's 5***** plus!

Shirley..

Hey, I was reading about your problems with short sleeved shirts these days and wanted to mention that (if you haven't seen them already) there is a new sleeve length out. It's called "elbow sleeve" and you can watch for that or google elbow sleeve shirt in products to find them. I got a couple of them at Target and they seem to be just the ticket! Here are some examples, if you're interested:

Hinge® Elbow Sleeve Tee - - Nordstrom

Hey folks, I finally got on this thread. I keep getting a message that the thread is unavailble. Not that problem on other threads. Does the number of post make a difference?

Anyway, I am doing great, getting ready for my pre-op low carb diet and Surgery on the 6th of June!

Hi Nip50:

It's nice to talk to a southerner! I am Judie from Alabama.

It's great to have an over 50 site just for us.

I was banded on Feb. 26th. Can't believe the changes so far.

I have lost 33 lbs. and feel so much better.

Sounds like the folks on this thread are glad they were banded

also. I just look forward to each new day! As I look in the mirror

it is so amazing from week to week. My husband is liking what

he sees, too.

Wondering if there are any other Alabama Gals out there?

Here is a quote I read about "learning":

"There are three classes of people in the world.

The first learn from their own experience-these are

wise: the second learn from the experience of others-these

are the happy; the third neither learn from their own experience

nor the experience of others-these are fools".

Author unknown

This is a great thread! I'll be posting often.

Hi Judie!

I'm in Sylacauga, AL!!! We have an Alabama forum too, Alabama Local Lap-Band Support - Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support . Who's your doctor?

Sounds like you're doing great. And what a wonderful quote you found. It really fits here. I know I have found everyone here to be so inspirational. So many new friends :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

Hey Judie! - Welcome! You're doing great so far and I just love this over 50 group. Everyone is so nice and supportive. I'm a southern transplant. I've been in Georgia for 14 years now, originally from Oregon. I love living in a small town, but really miss Oregon, it's like a foreign country down here. Keep up the good work.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
