Elayne, one more thing I like when I have to do liquids, is add fruit to my Protein Shakes, to thicken them up and makes them taste better. I added stawberries yesterday, which leaves the seeds when I crank up the magic bullet, so probably another fruit is more preferred. But thats how I get thru a day of only liquids, I add real fruit to my Protein Drinks. We all been there and then have to do it every time we get a fill. That was my 4th fill.

Hey guys Im at a normal BMI, yea me, even if I still look too fat. I used 5 6 1/2 for the BMI in my signature, Im really 5 6 3/4" so Im below that big number 25 BMI. I dont change it to a little taller, as a bigger incentive to lose more, but I check both ways. Im normal hahahahahahhaah (well BMI wise).

Hi All - just checking in...

I spent a good part of the morning trying on closet clothes trying to figure out what is going on my trip with me. I plan to shop a bit this week, but wanted to assess the current jeans situation. In short, it's GOOD. I am in the next size down! The bad news is they have been waiting so long they are no longer "in style" - so relegated to wear-around-the-house status. I love the new straight leg jeans - they are so much more slimming that the tapered leg. Alas, my closet contains the tapered leg variety. I have a pair of straight leg jeans from BassPro, and plan on getting another pair this week - that and a couple of pairs from the closet should take care of me. I think I will also check out the capri's at BP. I definitely need tops. I am between sizes and seasons in my closet, so I'll check those out, too. I have stored a couple of nicer pants/tops outfits - also fit now, so they are going with us. I bought new sandals and running (walking!) shoes last week so I'm set there. I have to shorten a couple of pairs of khakis that DH bought, shorten the sleeves on a jacket for me - and we are set.

I've been asked to do an article for a trade quilting magazine on the fabric market in Daegu, and quilting in Korea, on the Army post, etc. A friend of mine is on the board of the magazine and when she heard we were going she called me. I originally thought she wanted me to buy fabric at the market for her (I am doing that for a couple of friends), but she was excited about the experience and the opportunity to share the experience with other professional quilters. She has me pretty excited, too! I don't know how much interaction I can arrange with the local quilters, but I know there are several quilters on post with DD and she has already arranged for me to meet with them. I am hoping some of them might have established a connection with any local quilt guilds that may be interested in sharing their Korean traditions. My friend has given me the choice of being interviewed for the article by her - or writing it myself. I think I might give writing it a try...

DH is working this weekend. Our snow yesterday was about 7 inches of very heavy, wet snow. Made a mess of the streets, may have killed our lilac buds and daffodils - and will be gone by end of day tomorrow. DH tried the snow blower on it last night - it did not work well - too slushy... He decided to allow the sunshine to work on it today. Meanwhile, Jack is doing his world-famous snowplow impression with his nose as he runs through the yard. He loves the snow!

I hope you all are having a great weekend.

I'm not sure what I did to make my response skip down so far---sorry:sad:

After quoting, you probably accidently hit the return key a few times. Not a problem. It's still there. It's trial and error learning your way around here.

Can somebody explain the Posting Choices???? I don't I understand all the choices. THANKS! MiMi

I'm not sure what you mean by posting choices.

If you are on full liquids you probably cant have refried Beans. I had a fill yesterday, so yesterday was liquids only and today mush. When you do get to mushy foods, go to a place like Taco Bueno and get a cup of refriend beans with melted cheese. Not low calorie, but better than just liquids.

Even better... you can buy fat free refried beans in a can that are way lower in calories.. then melt some skim mozarella on top.

All of these purchases are VERY important - esp the Grateful Dead CD - ya gotta keep smiling!!

What is this special shampoo? I had not heard about it. I am almost 4 months out - been expecting hair loss any day, but so far, so good. I had a cut last week, and my hairdresser (I heart her) said she is not noticing any problems yet. I eat a lot of protein, and get a healthy amount of healthy fats - I am hoping that helps in the hair loss area.

Elayne - you are going to do so well. You are starting off with a great attitude. You have life issues - but so does everyone, I guess. You have such a positive attitude about the life issues and your commitment to a healthier future. You have had lots of time for reading and research - and following the adventures of your friends at LBTalk. You will be very successful on your journey. God bless.

Phyll, thanks for the words of encouragement. I sent an email to DD's friend who moved back from Korea last summer/fall. She responded very quickly with great ideas, names, who speaks English and who doesn't, all the great stuff I needed to know. DD told me she was a wonderful person - as usual she was right. DD has also made arrangements for me to attend a guild meeting on post. I'm pretty excited about writing this article. My local friend will be a great help to me, as she wants me to write it, too. If I enjoy it as much as I think I will, I might consider writing another for submission to some of the other quilting publications - assuming there would not be a conflict, of course. I'll have to check on that a bit more.

Hi Everyone,

Happy to read so many happy posts.

JoannMarie, You will be great writing the article.

I had to go to my GP today as the Fluid (blood) in my midriff has gotten bigger and has sunk over my waist.

He tried to draw the fluid out with needles but none would come out. I now have to have an ultra scran and have it drawn out but he thinks I have a deep set abscess in their. Great, just what I need after all this trouble. This will happen on the 8th April when the radiology place has a specialist available to do it. I've had this done many time before so it doesn't worry me too much. I'm on antibiotics.

To add insult to injury the MRI I had on my shoulder has shown that I need to have bone shaved from it as it is bone on bone and is really painful. I fell January 2008 and it's never gotten better. It will take months to heal apparently, so I'll wait until Mum has her second knee replacement done and is well again before I go ahead with that. I can't believe my ruddy luck.

I think I'll have to have this place blessed or exorcised or both to get some healthy vibes back in us all.

Where is Livin4jesus? Haven't seen her post for awhile.

Best wishes to all.

JoannMarie -

We share a love of needlework -

Quilting for you

and embroidery/knitting for me.

You are broadening your passion for the quilting arts into writing and I'm making serious plans to teach knitting and embroidery skills.

As for the hair business -

A beautician/RNY patient addressed our support group about Hair loss several weeks ago and recommended "Strength" by Mediceuticals.

Apparently their products are also used by Chemo patients.

I bought what appears to be a clone product by Sally Beauty.

I bought Naturelle yesterday and I'm about to take a shower (to drone out my growling stomach) and use it for the first time.

I also kinda-sorta color my hair as it's totally white.

I use the color-depositing BROWN Shampoo products in my own watered-down version with great results.

Interesting side-story to my Sally Spree -

The clerk who helped me was in month #4 of her supervised diet for a RNY.

She was unaware of the lift of the 6-mo diet requirement by several insurance companies.

She's with Geisinger, I'm with BC and she was very excited about contacting her surgeon's practice about her own status.

I gave her my card (I have an online-store where I sell needlework originals) and hope to hear from her soon.

Joann.......I wished you lived by me so I could take quilting classes from you. You will be a hit in Korea. I bet you find some awesome fabric there.

Katy.......You are on my prayer list. The Lord will see you through all of this. I know you must feel like Job, but you will get better. Take care of yourself!

Elayne---I would enjoy seeing the needlework you do. Will you give us your website? I enjoy counted cross stitch, but my eyes are not as strong as before. I've seen the big standing magnifyers in catalogs. I might give that a try. I knowyou will do well during and after your LB. You have really prepared beforhand and that is very wise. You will be in my prayers.

Katy---I'm sorry for all your suffering. So glad you got your band out and are on the mend. I sure am learning alot from all you have been going through. I have a bum shoulder, also. I have not been to the DR., keep putting it off. Good Luck with the tummy procedure.

Indio Girl---Where have you been? Haven't heard from you in quite some time. Hope all is well with you.

Joanne---I know you are so excited to be going on your trip. What an honor to be asked to speak at the quilter's group when you get to Korea and to write an article for a magazine, too. Stay safe on your trip and enjoy all the sights, especially that sweet baby.:)

Long2bthin---I guess I didn't describe the options too well--I was wondering about the QUOTE, REPLY,etc. choices at the bottom of a posting. I don't know computer jargon or how to use the computer too well. Still scared a little of it, I guess. MiMi

Oops---Also I lost all my ticker stuff on my MiMi site. What do I do about that? Any help or explanation is appreciated.:)

Hi MiMi,

For starters, this is how you use the "quote" button - click on it and it will give you a reply screen that quotes the post you are referring to. That way if you ask a question or make a comment on someone else's post, we all know who you are talking to (or about...)

I noticed your ticker was gone. I just clicked on the little box with a red X and it took me to your ticker on the TickerFactory site. Of course, it required YOUR password... Try clicking on it and see if it takes you to your ticker, and you can make any necessary changes, then re-post it.

I agree - computers can be frustrating. They seem to have a mind of their own.

Must have been magic! I didn't do anything, honest - just clicked on it. This just reinforces what we were saying about computers having minds of their own...

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
