Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi Corliss and everyone: That is great you went back to school and you got some more surgery. You must be a person that doesn't give up and keeps working !! Thank you all for the warm welcome to this site. I am in the mushy part of eating and I just "found" something cool at the grocery store. Of course it has been around for years but I never would even look at it because I LOVED CARBS and SUGAR. It is tofu noodles. Looks like noodles for all the dishes I loved but is 20 cals per serving, no carbs. OK, it is not as great as Pasta and the texture is different but I can make this change. Just wanted to pass this idea on if it could help anyone else.

Corliss, your story is amazing! I have a friend that is 53 and is gong to finish her RN degree this year. Your weight loss is amazing. This is the stuff I need to hear to keep myself focused. Are you happy with the PS?

Thanks Oc, I am extremely happy with the plastic. I would like a little revision on my forehead and will probalby go back for it next summer. I absolutely love the lower face, neck and the eye work. The arms are not dramatic, but the look like normal 57 year old arms now instead of looking disfigured. I am soo glad i had it. Thanks for the complement on my story. Have you seen my plastic surgery pictures? I posted a load of them, lol!

Welcome Jenno2

Yes LBT is a great site for support - Phyl has a book - I don't know the title - but she says it's great. I will have her tell you the name..

It's scary - but it is the best thing I did for me - and yes for us over 50 it's more about our health and extending our lives and improving the quallity... The looks are nice - but I consider it icing on the cake (yes pun intended :0)

Octillo....thanks for sharing the story of your 53 yr old friend who finished up her nursing studies! This is just what I needed to hear. My grandmother was a nurse and I just always had the calling but never followed through on it. I'm 50 and want to start to get my LPN license but I keep talking my self out of it thinking I'm being crazy ...but then I did the same thing when I thought about getting the Lap Band and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made! Finally free of my food addiction....now onward ho...

Go for it Sooverit, but why not RN instead of LPN. Lpn's do the same work for less money. School is generally 2 years as opposed to 12 months or 18 months in many cases. I think at 50 there is no reason to avoid either.

Good luck, Corliss

YEP!! That's the one!

My very favorite of several that I read. And I got to (sort of) meet the lady when a friend took me to one of her LapBand support group meetings. She tells it like it is in person, too!

Hey Jessie is something else again. She has had her band longer than anyone I know of. Over 10 years now I think. You can interact with her regularly on the yahoo message boards under Smartbandsters and GraduateBandsters. I am a member of both of those boards and she interacts daily, answering questions, offering support and sometimes kicking butt, lol! Her book is a good one too!

Question......What happens to the band if I get the flu. Does constant vomiting move the band?

I've heard of that happening but its very rare.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
