REFLUX - I guess I am lucky. After getting my band I have had no issues at all with reflux, and I was miserable before.

I do have episodes of PBing and such. But I make sure I have papaya enzyme tablets handy. They have been helpful in most cases

I just have to remember and chew, eat slowly and be patient..

You are right. I have pb'd on hard boiled eggs too. Once again, I probably ate too fast.....I just had to whine.

Of all the bandster rules, eating more slowly is by FAR the hardest thing for me. I still work at it every time I eat, with varying success. I've got to figure out a way to beat this. Beat my old bad habits into submission? I am determined to master this.

Hi, there!

Yeah, we got down here early in October this year. Weather has been great. This weekend, not so much, but for the most part, very pleasant.

Got that pain in my side again tonight... port site, I think. It lasted about an hour. Started not long after dinner. Don't know what's causing that.

Phyl...do you still have your gallbladder? What did you eat for the dinner b/4 the episode???

Janet - I toook your suggestion and got my SF "treats" in the house. Now that they are there I am not tempted as much. spme reverse psychology I guess.

The werther's caramel and dove dark chocolate are very good and reasonable for calories and such. My favorite is the Protein hot chocolate mix.. :)

I will get myself on the scale the end of the week to see if I am succeeding in holding my own or even losing a bit...

I am enjoying the "relaxation" at work today after running myself ragged over the weekend..

Gall bladder has been gone a long time. We made "fish soup" yesterday... tomatoes, Tomato puree, carrots, celery, onion and a conglomeration of different fish... some artificial crab, tilapia, shrimp, squid, etc., chili powder, curry powder, a dash of ground cilantro, Old Bay fish seasoning and a little sea salt. It's a very weird kind of pain... doesn't feel like indigestion or anything. Kind of does remind me of when I did get gall bladder pain, but it's on the wrong side, and it is pretty close to where my port is. It lasted about an hour, which is longer than before when it happened.

was banded June 28th. Counting the pre-surgery diet I have lost a total of 24 pounds and nearly all of that was the pre-surgery diet. In the beginning I was NOT doing any extra walking or exercising. For about a month now I have added 2-3 times up six flights of stairs and recently some jogging on one of those small trampoline joggers. Nothing happening yet.

It seems recently some days I can eat ok, minus of course the foods that no longer agree with me, (chicken, steak, eggs, tortillas, bread), other days I cannot even eat oatmeal without vomiting. Those days everything I eat is so painful if I am not vomiting , I am praying to.

I am so disappointed with myself.

Don't be disappointed with yourself! Eating and living with the band is definitely a learning experience.

I would say though, if you are having trouble most days, have the tiniest amount of a defill. Once you pb in the mornings, you can have swelling which will cause problems the rest of the day. If mornings are your problems, try a Protein Drink until you are more open. If you can't eat meat later in the day, I would say you're too tight.

DH will probably be getting me some of those for Christmas (in my stocking)... maybe I should remind him!!??:frown::biggrin:

My new favorite SF treats are the SF Jello pudding snacks.. I love the Rice Pudding/Cinammon one and there's another one with an exotic name that I can't remember right now, but it's vanilla pudding with caramel sauce on top. I saw it on "Biggest Loser".

I am so hoping for 3 lb loss this week!! I want to get to that 100 lb mark so I can wear my new diamond studs! And the 100 lb shirt Janet made me for my birthday! I am so confident, I'm going to pack it in my swim bag Thursday morning before I go to face the scale!

Anyone looking for an excuse to buy new earrings... if you have a "Piercing Pagoda" at your local mall.... all their jewelry over $30 is 1/2 price right now. I got a pair of $150 diamond studs, 14k gold for $75, and two pairs of little gold balls.. marked $49.95... half price for those too! Or, tell your "Santa" to go check it out!

Definitely the hardest for me too. And before banding I thought that sounded so easy to do. I thought all the dietary changes, etc. sounded way more complicated. I think that part is easy, but still forget sometimes and eat too fast and take too big of bites. Usually happens when I am not being mindful of my eating or am too hungry.

Can you California girls please send some warmth??? It was -18 last night and high today of only 3. Windchill is still like -12. BRRRRR I don't have my insulation to withstand this anymore, not that it would've kept me warm in this cold.

Today was the final weigh in for the Biggest Loser competition at my local rec center. Weigh ins are until 9pm tonight but as of 230pm I was still in first place and my 2 biggest competitors have weighed in, so got my fingers crossed. I heard the prize was $700, should find out tomorrow.

Also, hit 90 lbs lost!! WOOHOO!!! 10 more til triple digits and 15 more til I am out of the 200's!!!!!!! Never in a million years did I think I could say that. Went shopping today to Bass Pro Shops for DH's Christmas but got some jeans for myself. I liked the cut and fit and price, and best of all, my first 14's!!!

As you get tighter, they can become a problem. Especially if overcooked until dry. (Rubbery hard boiled eggs can do the same. Poached and soft boiled are friendlier.)

I haven't had a problem with them yet. I just had some for dinner, scrambled with onion, pepper, broccoli and cauliflower, with little bits of ham, seasoned with five spice powder and the like and a little teriyaki sauce. Yum.

Hi Orea15,

Saw the surgeon yesterday. He took a little Fluid out and said that I would stop losing weight now but should be able to sleep. I'd been under the impression that there was no fluid in the band at all since the hernia operation last month and that he wasn't going to refil until late next month. He told me a furfie (fib). Nothing has changed though, still vomited last night and was burping continuously. He's overseas for a month on holidays now so I'll just have to make the best of it. I'll get some extra walking in to try to compensate.

By the way, that recipe sounds delicious.

Best wishes.

Here goes another question but I think I know the answer. Last Tuesday I had a fill - it was a good bit so much so that they had to take out 1cc before I left since I couldn't drink Water. I was banded 8/25 and since then I have had no restriction that I could tell. After this last fill I had restriction! I have not been doing so well with the eating as much as I try to slow down and chew and cut into small pieces, it feels like it just sits there and I have indigestion all the time. On Saturday I felt great - ate, drank and felt full for about 4 hours and that's exactly what I want! Sunday was the worst, I started the day by vomiting my two bites of Breakfast. Do I need to have some taken out? I really like the fact that I can't eat and don't eat that much but I am not really getting in the calories or Protein that I need. So I answered my own question right?

A couple of things to consider:

1) Many bandsters at their right fill level may have trouble with solid food in the morning. Often they do a shake or a fat free latte to get in some Protein and Calcium for the day. They get their food in later in the day.

2) There is a thing called "first bite syndrome." What you need to do, is take a tiny bite, chew it well, swallow, and then wait a minute or two. See how you feel, repeat if you are doing okay. Some bands (or the stomachs they are attached to) need a little time to adjust to eating. They clamp down or something unless you ease them into it with a few tiny, well spaced bites.

Try these ideas and see if you find a way to work with your band. oh, and going to liquids for a day after you PB isn't a bad idea, either, to let your tissues settle down from the insult.

Good luck!

Orea

Orea - Great recommendations. I cannot eat anything solid until about 11:00am. I usually start the day with a Protein drink. Hot tea sometimes helps "open me up".

I feel like the band is always a work in progress!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
