I am in a rural area, and I have not ever had a nutritionist. I did rely a lot on this forum, and also my own common sense, and health related information. I learned what foods would be good for me, as well as what would not be....with or without the band. Then I added the band into the eqation.

The amounts, the foods we were told to eat, or not to eat, when to begin eating them---everything is different based on each surgeon. You should be able to find a happy medium, that coincides somewhat with the pamphlet your surgeon gave you--by reading and researching health related articles. Prevention magazine has a good website with health related eating issues often.

Would you have been given any more information if you had had the sleeve? Seems the issue is lack of post op care from your surgeon, not the type of surgery you had.

As I said before, I have never, not one time seen a nutritionist, and I have found great success with my band, and maintained my health through it all---I am sure many of us have---and I bet you can too!!!

Welcome to bandland!

First off you should ask them what your post op diet should be. Most surgeons keep you on liquids a minimum of 1 week, 2 more likely. Then you can move to the full liquid stage like creamy soups., then a week or 2 later you need to move to mushies or soft fooods ie. chili, tuna salad, potatoe. Then it is onto solids. When you go to solids you need to eat 60 grams of Protein. chicken, fish, eggs, yoguart, milk, beef those types of foods. At this point you may see a slight weight gain becuase your calorie intake will be more. Try and stick to 800-1k calories a day. You most likely will experience more hunger and no restriction during this time. Once that starts along with slowed down weight loss it will be time for a fill. It may take several fills until you feel less hungry and satisfied. Good luck.

When I was doing a food log for my nutritionist for six months prior to surgery, I found this absolutely GREAT website Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com whereby I put in the food I ate and it actually gave me a real nutrition label for the food!

The girls in my office have just found other aspects to this website they love, but I mainly use it for specific nutritional information. Good luck!:)

My doc required 10 days full liquids it included cream Soups - then 10 days mushies then 10 soft the on 30th regular - so you should be on soft foods if I go by my doc's advice. this equates to anything you can cut with a fork - my doc you are to get 60 grms of Protein in daily (1oz of meat = 7 grms protein) and 64 oz of Water - low fat & sugar free.

Protein 1st - then veggies then carbs if you have any room..

If you know nothing about proper nutrition - then I would suggest joining weight watchers on line (don't know if they have meeting in the middle east??) - In my humble opinion WW is the best well rounded food plan out there.

Or you can ck with your family doctor maybe he could refer you - your surgeon sound like a butthead - doesn't he care if you succeed or not...

I went to Home Page of the Program of Weight Management They have complete post op diet there from day one and on. It even has menus. It tells how many calories and grams of Protein you need per day. It gives names of Vitamins, Protein Drinks and Protein Bars. I have never called my nutritionist since my surgery, I printed this out before hand and I just take a look at it if I need too. This site has a lot of great info on it. However, everyone is different. I am able to eat anything and I seem to be okay, others cannot eat bread and certain veggies etc, etc. If you have any questions let me know, I will be glad to help if I can. Good luck.

I thought the web address would show up, just click on the "Home Page to...." and it will redirect you to the website. Sorry for the confusion.

u r right but for the meat i dont think i can eat it right now couse its a complex food and it would be hard for the stomach to digest but i eat Beans mushes instead

and i really think of going to a nutritionist but i dont know if he would help me if he had no idea about the surgery and no feed back from my surgeon and about WW,we dont have them iguess its only in america(coz my sister join them there even that her BMI is 26 )

and iguess my doc is butthead even though he is really skillful:biggrin1: -but ithink the most coz he wanted to preform a gastric bypass or the sleeves due to my weight dunno im gonna surround him with answers the next time i see him for my first fill

I think I spent 5 minutes with a NUT. I was told to eat Protein first, then veggies, and last starches if I'm still hungry.

I think just following the basic guidelines of good eating will do wonders.

Good luck to you!

Wombat, that is the corect way to eat for a bandster. If you eat you Protein first it will keep you satisfied longer.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
