Recommended Posts

Went to Mexico so I stayed one night in the hospital and one night in the hotel after release from hospital just to make sure everything was OK

My surgery is Friday morning and my doc says I'll be out in 3 hours. He has some patients stay overnight, but it's because of other health risks like asthma, diabetes, heart problems, etc. If you are healthy, it's day surgery.

I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow, 3/18 and my doctor requires overnight stay, just to be sure. I would rather stay in the hospital...

I had surgery at 8:30 am and I was home at 5:30 pm. I was so happy to get home.

I was home the same day. Wouldn't have had it any other way, but my hospital was very close and I was confident care was near if I'd needed it. (I didn't.) ;)

Its called a 23 hour hold for insurance purposes. It is billed al little different. Give me an over night stay for piece of mind. You may not feel like you had major surgery but you did. Between possible urinary problems, cardiac problems, stomach problems, blood clot problems, internal bleeding problems, I wanta be where they can moniter me. I'm not a worry wart, just a nurse and know what can happen. I can sleep when I get home the next day.

I'm a same dayer. I went in at 9:00am, Surgery at arond 12:30pm and went home at 4:30pm. They gave me a little happy juice shot at around 3:30pm. When I was leaving they asked if I wanted a wheel chair ride out - I said no thanks and walked out. One friend drove me to another friend house (do not be on your own). But I was getting up and down and in out of bed on my own. The next day I went for a short walk.

But ... one case is not like another. I maybe obesely overweight but I am semi-active. Beside a low thyroid and high cholesterol I did not have any medical problems or physical affirmities. I was doing all my yard work, going to Curves, walking my dogs etc. I do not like being waited on and I'm pretty pain tolerant and I for one don't want to ever stay in a hospital longer than I have to (there's a lot of sick people in there).

I had outpatient surgery too. I had my surgery about 1pm and left by 5:30pm. I did stay in a hotel with my mom and best friend for the weekend. It was great having them help me out. Good luck with yours.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
