I had open incision RNY back in 2004 due to size..400lbs.

I lost almost 200 lbs.but through the years gained a good amount back.

Also five years sober now.

Point is..Ive been researching the facilities in Tijauna where the doctors are double certified in US as well as Mexico. So I am just wondering if anyone has:

1. Gone there and where to get the surgery

2. Specifically a revision on an full RNY procedure (not lapro)

3. How its been.

And please...respectfully..not looking to getting it done here because my insurance wont cover it, and I cannot afford it.

Hi, would love to chat. I also had an RNY gastric bypass in 2004. I lost 113 pounds, from 260 to 147. I'm now back up to 230 and hoping to get a revision. I have Medicare/Medicaid in Tennessee. I've got my fingers crossed that they will cover it.

I completely understand looking at Tijuana for a revision; self-pay in the US is shockingly expensive. While my original bypass wasn't an open procedure, I've spent a ton of time looking into revisions for older RNYs.

One thing you'll definitely want to ask potential surgeons about is scar tissue (adhesions). Because your 2004 surgery was an open incision, there's usually a lot more internal scar tissue compared to a laparoscopic one. Most top-tier Tijuana surgeons are very experienced with this and can still do the revision laparoscopically, but they might need to spend extra time carefully clearing that old scar tissue first.

Definitely reach out to a few of the highly-rated, board-certified bariatric centers over there to send them your old surgical reports. Wishing you the best of luck with your research!
