Question how long did pain last after surgery?

2nd part did you need to refill on pain medication or were you able to go without?

Mine only lasted about 8 days. My doc prescribed Tramadol for pain but it was only 18 pills ( I think). It was only supposed to last for like 3-4 days. The dosage was one every 4 hours for pain, but I would only take it at bedtime so that I could sleep through the night. That made it last much longer. I did not ask for a refill. After that, if I did feel something like soreness or dull pain, I'd just take the rapid release Tylenol. They dissolve really fast so that more of the medicine is absorbed.

I didn’t really have any pain after surgery other than tightness in my muscles from being in the terrible hospital bed. I took a few muscle relaxers for that and maaaaybe one pain pill a day for 1-2 days. After that, I was fine. My surgery was robotic and apparently that minimizes pain quite a bit.

I would say 3 or 4 days till the incisions felt alittle better. I did a big grocery shopping on day 6. All I took for pain was a couple shots of liquid tylenol. They also gave me a bottle of liquid oxycodone to take home from the hospital. Never took any - it's still full . Honestly,for me,it was one of the easiest surgeries I've had.

I didn't have any pain at all I didn't even bother opening the bottle of pain pills they sent me home with. The only thing I had, like someone else said, was tightness in my abdominal muscles. I didn't feel it if I was just lying there - or sitting there - or standing there - but when I was transitioning from one position to another, I could feel it - felt like I'd done a bunch of crunches.

pain is really all across the board. Some of us have it, others have little to none. But they'll send you home with something if you do. The pain usually just lasts three or four days if you have it, so you're not likely to need a refill (although I would assume they'd refill it if needed)

I didn't have much pain once the gas passed, which was at the hospital. I never took pain meds at home, only Tylenol.

I had a pretty good amount of pain week 1 but then I was in surgery for 4 hours for RNY and a large hernia repair. The pulling sensation was the worst at my right incision site mainly when I transitioned from lying to sitting or sitting to standing. Even at week 2.

I sipped on my liquid Oxy that first week and when I ran out I called the pharmacy for a refill week 2. I was told I needed a doc to do that so called him and was told by his nurse they don't normally refill that medication. I was like OK, I'll survive.

I guess I didn't realize from the labeling (Hydrocod Acetaminophen) what I was asking for till I googled it. Oxy. I felt bad then for asking for more. After that, I never used anything else for pain. In fact I still have a tad bit of that liquid oxy left over if ever needed in the future.

I'm guessing if I hadn't had the hernia repair I wouldn't have needed it at all. Like a superwoman

Every body is different and tolerance for pain is different. I was definitely uncomfortable as so much movement relies on the core, but not in a huge unbearable pain way. I was given 6 Percocets of which I only took 3 - 1 pill at night just to sleep better as I couldn't sleep on my side and it was not the best sleep on my back. If i needed anything else daytime, I just took tylenol. I did not get crazy pain until week 2 and a half when the pulling in my side nearly knocked me out. However that was remedied with a binder that I wore for just a few days until the worst of it passed. Now at 4 months post-op I barely remember those days and would change nothing.

Good point I forgot about. I asked for a binder at the hospital before I left the hospital. I had a long, somewhat bumpy ride home. It really helped.

At home, I just wanted it off so I used a pillow and held it against my tummy when getting up or down to take pressure off my incisions and I also slept with a body pillow.

Thank you so much. My surgery is in 6 days, so I really appreciate your response right now. The pain I no longer nervous about it and will deal with it when the times comes. I am just amazed at both of your successful numbers with weight loss at 4 months simply awesome!

65pounds & 76pounds in 4 Months you both must feel like a million bucks.

Really moving around has to be so much easier now right.

It must have felt awesome to see the scale leave the 3's and see the 2's big goal of mine.

I think you both will hit those goal numbers.

Funny thing is that I honestly didn't put a whole lot of thought into it until a week ago. I stopped and thought wow I haven't had as much body pain - the knee pain and lower back pain has lessened by a lot. Of course it's not completely gone because age factors in, lol, but it's too the point I didn't have to really think about it. Longer walks and climbs up the stairs doesn't take the wind out of me and I live and commute in NYC so lots of walking and stairs to tackle.

I had lost 100+ lbs a few years ago (took far longer of course) and maintained it for awhile until pandemic times when i went back to where I started. So to be back to before pandemic weight feels great. I'm hoping to hit the 100lb gone and get into onderland by end of year. *fingers crossed*

Best of luck to you on your surgery, it's certainly life changing and worth it.

Thank you, yes, I am more than thrilled with my progress so far. And I do feel like a million bucks. Going from completely sedentary to walking 2 miles a day outside, among other things, feels amazing.

I am almost halfway to my WL goal and can only imagine how much better I'll feel when I get into the 100's. Maybe like 2 million. LOL

I wasn't sure when your surgery was scheduled. It's coming up soon. I'm glad to hear you feel more comfortable with everything. You will do great and keep us posted. Good luck!!!!

Talking about money how you all like saving the extra money you used to spend on going out to eat?

I think my bill will go down 1k a month at the minimum.
