I'm curious about the vitamin patches. I asked my nutritionist about them and was told they are known not to absorb as well as chewables etc. But they sound so convenient.

I am taking Walgreen's Optifast Post Bariatric citrus chewables 4Xs a day without any problems. But time will tell if they keep me at proper levels.

I was told the Patches aren't as effective and to avoid them.

Agree.. I think I'll give the Patches a go at some point too. Funny when I first started researching Vitamins pre op, I ran across people saying they take Flintstone chewables. I thought wha....? Then when I asked my surgeon what was best he said, " I don't care if you take a Flintstone Vitamin. Just take a vitamin." Kind of surprised me cause the Flintstones never came up in that conversation until he mentioned it. LOL

Yes, my nutritionist wasn't big on the idea either. When I told her what the doc said about taking Flintstone Vitamins she looked appalled since they are both on the same bariatric team. Heehee

This is all I am required to take, so easy, meets all guidelines, and only 5 pills.

Looks totally do able.

Here are mine along with my meds that I'm hoping to eventually be off of. Those big horse pills 4Xs a day cost 30 bucks a month but contain everything needed after bariatric. (Walgreens Optifast Post Bariatric)

Is it cheaper to buy each Vitamin individually? We got to take Vitamins forever so I'm all about saving money as long as my bloodwork looks good :)

I don't think I am spending $30 a month on all of it, I buy 90 day bottles and its very cheap. I just can't do the chewables, they make me nauseous when I chew them, and they were more expensive.

My program actually recommends the Flintstones Complete. They are affordable, especially for the beginning where you might need to take more expensive chewable Calcium and stuff. I take two Flintstones, two chewable calciums (will be glad when the bottle is done though ha) and one B12 melt (every other day). I do think I'll switch to pills once I'm done with my stash of chewables though.

Good to know. I tend to value my surgeon's opinion more so than my nutritionist. If he says they are OK then so be it :)

When you have blood work done a few months post op, you will know if they are working for you or if you are deficient.

Could you please share your favorite supplements brand for multi vitamins/iron/calcium and why they’ve worked best for you? I need to order some and am confused between chews (like Starbursts?) and liquid (better absorption?) and chewables (chalky?). I care most about proper absorption bc I’m having gastric bypass and want to keep my levels healthy. Thanks all!

I love ProCare. I started with the chewable citrus Vitamin (didn’t like the berry), post surgery, and then switched to capsules once I was able to swallow pills. I also use the ProCare calcium chews. My levels have been great. ProCare will send you a free sample. It’s also been convenient with auto ship a couple of years out.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
