So I'll be 6 weeks post op on Sunday (bypass) and I still feel awful and I wish I hadn't spent every penny I own doing this to myself!

I feel sick every day nearly all day and it's better lying down but how am I supposed to work or make dinner when activity makes me feel really sick and my family comment that I even lose all my colour in my face when I have to go lie down

food is just...rubbish? Nothing tastes great anymore and I don't feel like eating anything and even then the weight loss has slowed dramatically i managed to lose 1 pound in a week of barely eating, I'm constantly burping as well (as soon as I woke up today)

I still have an upset stomach nearly every day, ive been pretty good about actually being sick and although I constantly feel it I've only got to retching 4 times (can anyone else not vomit even when your retching and gagging?!)

I guess I'm just feeling low and upset and wondering if I'll ever feel human again, apologies for the bad attitude I'm crying even doing this and I just hate how I feel. I guess I thought I'd be feeling better by now

Sam

None of that seems normal except maybe for the first day or so for most people. Especially not after 6 weeks. If you haven't already, I would contact my surgeon soon. Really hope you feel better soon.

It's very normal to have feelings of regret early on. The first few weeks after surgery are the hardest because you're still recovering from major surgery, adjusting to your new stomach, very limited in what you can eat, and you haven't seen the benefits of the weight loss yet. For most people, things just get better from there. You will soon get to start reintroducing "normal" food and you will lose more weight than you ever thought possible. There were many times at the beginning that I wondered, "Why did I do this to myself?!" but now I'm almost 3 years out and that rough early post-op period is barely a blip in my memory. Have faith and give it time, and chances are good that you, like most people, will only eventually only regret that you didn't have surgery earlier.

By the way, stalls are very normal. It's just your body re-adjusting. Keep going with your plan and the weight loss will resume.

It gets better trust me, in 12 months time how you are feeling now will be hard to remember. I felt like this and even worse at times but I am fine now. Focus on the improvements each . Once you are eating normal food you will feel even better.

Remember your hormones are out of whack now too so that won't be helping with your moods either. I actually started HRT Patches to help stabilise my moods, I was perimenopausal prior to surgery though.

Big hugs it does get better. My counsellor also said we go through a grieving process too which makes sense. I went through all of those emotions.

Yes I know how you feel, I went through this buyers remorse too. I hated cooking smells, couldn't eat, couldn't drink enough. My restriction was so extreme that until the internal swelling abated I struggled to sip Water. It passed and every day after I felt better. I got a double dose of anti nausea meds and that changed my nausea slowly for the better.

Take it hour by hour, day by day. Rest as much as you can. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. I promise you that soon you will feel better. Just getting to your liquid goal does make you feel so much better. It takes a while but you will get there too

It's between the 6 and 12 week mark most people have regrets...I know I did. I felt like I was wasting away, not losing weight in a healthy way. It will get better, to a point where one day soon you'll realize you feel "normal" again, and you'll get a burst of energy from carrying around so much less.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
