Does anyone else get cold super easy after surgery?

I used to tolerate the cold with no issue, but now I walk around my house in a hoodie and sweatpants. and even sleep in that at times. That is something I previously would have never done. I hate the restriction, but my god, I am always cold now.

I'm more of the opposite, I used to always be cold prior to surgery, AC could not be lower than 77, but now I put it at 75 to feel slightly cooler. Now outside in the 60s makes me feel cold, while before lower 70s required a cardigan.

it's really common. Something about the surgery evidently affects your inner thermostat. I had that issue the first few months after surgery, but I don't any more. For some people, though, it's permanent.

We are smack in the worst of an English winter, its freezing and snow is on the ground. My heating is at max and I am freezing cold all day. I sit with a hot water bottle on my lap and a fluffy blanket over me. When I am busy I am warm enough but unless I am in bed, I go back to cold again. I hope I will manage the cold better next year

Yes! I'm also feeling the cold 14 months out from my sleeve. I need three layers minimum inside now if I'm sitting doing nothing. I really hope it isn't permanent.

YES I used to be a polar bear. I never even wore socks around the house during the winter, never wore sweaters, etc. Now I sleep in socks & sweaters, I'm constantly cold. Though I kind of hope this means I'll tolerate California heat better

I loved the cold before surgery. Would love to sleep in 20 degree weather. Right now its 71 degrees here in Florida and i am freezing. Its kinda pi$$ing me off lol

The outside weather doesn't effect me quite as back as the AC does.

But my husband is one of those people who says, we live in south Florida, so we never need the heat... It was in the 30s a few nights, so in the house it was like 63, I was freezing. I had blankets, a hood, pants...

I hope this doesn't last.

Yep & i still do. I’m the one running down the freezer, meat & dairy aisles in the supermarket. I get so cold it’s like it almost burns. It’s the lack of insulation (fat) and your body doesn’t have to work as hard when you’re doing every day tasks or being more active.

Yep. If the temperature drops below 25 Celsius, I'm looking for a jacket. Walked into a theatre for a show last night (it's mid Summer here) and the air-con temp took my breath away. Foolishly didn't think to bring a jacket. Thankfully a mate gave me a long sleeve shirt he'd brought as an extra layer or I'd have been miserable!

Yes! I now sleep in socks, jacket, and sometimes even shoes. My boyfriend doesn’t mind bc it means I get to cuddle more for warmth 😉

I was super cold for almost the first 2 years. I was always a hot natured person before, but for a while after surgery I had to sleep in several layers of clothing and blankets and had to wear long sleeves all the time. I never could stand to wear long sleeves before because I would get too hot. I'm 2.5 years out now and I seem to be mostly back to normal again. I do get colder than before but it's not like it was after surgery when I was freezing all the time. I'm back to being hot natured again and I'm actually disappointed because I can deal with being cold much better. I hate to be hot!

Before surgery I always ran hot. I often only wore a light fleece jacket. Now, I’m only a month PO but I’m constantly cold, even broke out my old parka I haven’t worn in years

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
