How is everyone from 11/28 and 11/29 doing?

I just had the surgery on the 29th...

I woke up crying just bc I woke up to pain and the most extremely dry throat I've ever had.

Ice chips have saved me and soothed throat and stomach.

I went walking about five times since yesterday to try to alleviate the gas pains in my stomach, mostly left side, all the way up to my left shoulder but the counter effect is my stomach hurts now... I found that holding a pillow to my stomach while walking does help... it won't eliminate the pain but it helps.

I can tell once I'm healed I will be very happy and thankful for this procedure. It's going to be life changing and any surgery will cause soreness and some pain right after it's done, but I'm not regretting it at all.

Ice chips are my friend. Getting in and out of the bed in my hospital room is my enemy and eventually I found myself resting in the recliner in my hospital room and that was much better on my stomach.

I also have a heating pad on my stomach and feel pretty good just resting here... lol but know I've got to get up soon to walk and then be discharged from hospital.

Good luck everyone!

Glad you are doing well.

I found the walking while my stomach giggle painful after I was discharged, while in hospital the nerve blockers were fooling me.

Had my 1 week post op appointment, everything went well. I have been doing good with my Fluid almost at 55oz and I'm taking in about 40g of Protein. Pain is small on that incision and only when I do certain movements. I'm cleared to start pureed on Monday.

So glad to hear you are doing so well. So far so good over here as well. I am doing well with my fluids. I keep walking and walking finally the gas is passing so i am feeling much better.

Hi friends,

I’m new. My sleeve surgery was on 11/22. If changing your lifestyle before Thanksgiving isn’t a commitment, idk what is!

Hi, I had the sleeve on 11-28. I totally agree with the whole change at the holiday. I was in the middle of the pre-op liquid diet on thanksgiving. I just explained to family and friends that it was best for me to not be around all that temptation because i know myself. I did well. I am now two days post op and so grateful i stuck with the pre op plan to the T! I am doing well so far with getting in my liquids but i get full so fast. I have to be super mindful to pace my sips. So far so good. I am praying recovery continues to go this well.

My surgeon told me not to take anything for a few days but to continue walking. He said that it takes a few days after surgery for things to get moving again, which makes sense. I am doing my best to follow their orders to a T. Everyone is different I am glad it worked. I am hoping it warms up a little more today so i can walk outside without freezing

Agree, had surgery the same day and got back to town on T day. My mom doesnt know I got the surgery but figured since I got home late we were skipping the festivities lol

It was hard but I kept reminding myself that this was a live or die situation and that made me strong. Even now when I do not feel like getting Protein in I remind myself of the why and the overall benefits

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
