DID you GAIN OR LOSE WEIGHT POST-OP BEFORE YOUR FIRST FILLS.

So many have had questions about gaining or losing during the "healing" period after surgery (for purposes of this, let us say it is about six weeks).

Some gain during the soft food period and after. This is so normal, according to my doctor. It is a time of healing and many of us, after the swelling, experience a return to the same ability to eat as post-surgery - until we start to get fills.

I didn't realize I could pick more than one answer and didn't see the bottom one of losing 16 lbs or more before first fill. I would've checked that one. I agree with everything alliemorris said. I was banded about the same time and lost about the same amount, I could've written her post. I'm at 78, that big 8-0 is eluding me, but I'll get it!! I've had 5 fills so far and may get another next month as I am loosening up a bit.

I lost almost 90 lbs before my first fill. Of course, I didn't get a fill until I was 6 mos post op. Had my 2nd one the following month even though I didn't feel I needed it. Haven't had one since and I'm 15 mos post ops. Just relying more on exercise and watching what I eat more than relying on the restriction. Reached my initial goal of 130 lbs lost by 13 mos post op and have basically gone into maintenance mode.
