Avoiding sugar substitutes?

Hi! I am newly endo-sleeved and moving towards solids now. I was told to stay sugar free, but I truly cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners (including stevia). I don’t have a huge sweet tooth in general, more of a savory eater, but I am wondering if the occasional “real” sugar will harm me that much. In theory, I know sugar is considered an empty calorie, but if I am staying in a significant deficit, wouldn’t that be sufficient?

Backstory, I only have about 30lb to lose from start to finish, and mainly wanted the procedure to change my relationship with food (especially portion control) and improve my wellbeing and fitness. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you !

I sincerely mean no disrespect, but I'm honestly a little confused? You said you did the surgery to change your relationship with food, but here you are a few days post-op and already asking if you c

Ah, got ya. Not sure about how your procedure differs from other sleevers, but they may be better able to advise on how they are on sugar. I wanted to suggest you try the monk fruit sweetener (with

I have been having bad migraines lately. I think its due to the Protein Shakes. I purchased clear Protein shakes with stevia for after my surgery (later today) but I am worried. What meds are you on, if you don't mind me asking? And how did you do with the Protein Drinks?

Scared but excited.

For my migraines I take Topamax, Amitriptyline, Keppra and Vitamin B2. My rescue medication is Nurtec ODT and additionally I also take Emgality injection every 28 days.

I've had a migraine that went unbroken for over a year, so you can see why anything that can trigger one is something I want to avoid like the plague.

Apparently I was not having migraines I was having mini strokes. I learned this after my surgery when my hand wasn't working and got a CT and an MRI.

I used to take Topamax and nortryptoline.

I'm sorry that happened. I hope you don't have any residual effects from the mini strokes. I only had one once and it freaked me out.

My MRIs show lesions that may be related to migraines or may eventually become something far more serious. The one finding that I found amusing was fat in my brain. I actually said to the neurologist "so how much exercise do I need to do to get rid of THAT?".
