Was given the all clear to try regular coffee if desired. Yesterday was my birthday and I chickened out of getting a birthday skinny mocha. Today I did end up trying a small one and my god. This is probably hour 2 of dumping.

Hope you feel better soon. I'd be in a bad way if I couldn't drink coffee.

Oh wow that sucks. Bypass must be very different than the sleeve. I have 2-3 cups of coffee most nights (I work overnights) without issue. Currently drinking a starbucks expresso drink lol

Well at least you decided not to do it on your bday. That sucks though? So it was just the caffeine. No added sugar. I have Mention of some people having issues with caffeine but this is the first I ever heard it first hand.

It's an individual thing. I'm a bypass patient, and I drink coffee - and various coffee drinks - all the time. Never had an issue.

My support group said it was likely the sugar content. Because my derpy self didn’t think they made a sugar free and they do 🤦‍♀️

I am scarred for awhile though.

I had coffee (Black, no sugar/cream) on day 2 after surgery. No issues. I agree with your group that it was the sugar that caused your issues. That is in my limited experience and understanding. I'm only on day 4.

yes it would have been the sugar. Sugar makes some bypass patients dump. Most coffee places have sugar free syrups for their fancy coffee drinks, and pretty much every place has packets of powdered artificial sweeteners.

I drink iced coffee on a daily basis (Circle K Sip & Save for the win!). I find that cold brew coffee is easier on the stomach (gentler, less acidic) and the sugar free syrups/stevia help it be sweet enough. The other benefit of coffee, besides caffeine, is that it has a salutary effect on the colon to keep things regular.

I simply can't drink unsweetened black coffee, and I found that artificial sweeteners made me quite nauseous for about six months after surgery. I now have 2-3 cups of coffee every morning with skim milk and two packets of Equal without any issue, but it did take me a while to get here.

I have the bypass, and I can drink my coffee anyway that I want. I have about 2 to 3 cups a day. Sometimes with milk and other times with cashew milk. So yummy.

any way* (hate my typos and I can't edit on my phone posts)

I forgot to add that almond milk unsweetened vanilla also makes my coffee taste yummy. However, Silk Cashew milk is my favorite. Only 25 cal a cup. I use it for everything once my Protein goals are met. Otherwise I use Fairlife milk (high protein) is I need more protein. I can't drink black coffee either. I wish but I can't.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
