November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Recommended Posts

Had my 2 week follow up, everything is going great. I have to start my gall bladder medicine today and in 2 weeks my B12 injections. Everything I have had to eat has settled good, and I'm consistently drinking 50oz which he said was good. I have not been doing much activity, I figured I will start when the dreaded 3-week stall comes around and that will trick it lol, let's see if that works lol

Ugh, the 3 week stall is now extending well into week 4! I've gaining and losing the same 2 pounds since last Thursday 😭 Trying hard to trust the process...

Hope everyone is doing well!

Have you tried adding more calories? I thought I was hitting my first stall and without realizing was adding 50 calories per day, and after 3 days lost a pound.

I have been doing good with food, not yet at 64oz of fluids, especially with the 30 min rule, that really becomes 1.5hrs without drinking a couple of times a day.

Starting a walking routine tomorrow since I will be starting week 3, have a conference for 3 days so during the day would not walk much, hoping that will distract the 3 week stall. Either way will start weekly weigh ins after Tuesday.

Was running low on my Protein Shake, which the only one I have had post-surgery is premier chocolate and I do not even like chocolate but find it good. I reordered the caramel which I found good before and the chocolate Peanut Butter which is delicious like a butter finger or resees cup. I will be taking a few for my holiday vacation.

Last night I had a slice of ham too fast and just sat on the back of my throat, granted yesterday was a day I was eating everything fast so that did not help. Today is a new day and I'm making sure I take smaller bites and chew chew chew.

My weight has fluctuated a bit, but it has moved I think is the hormones (dry skin anyone) and the fact I took some stool softener too.

Ditto everything, right down to the ham (deli slice for me). Eating is going better than drinking now that I’m more mindful and intentional. I actually push bites to the outside of my plate like numbers on a clock and on between and try to make sure I pace my bites throughout a half hour. Do I sound crazy?! It’s visual so it’s been helping for me. 🤣

😆 They do say to concentrate on your eating so sounds right to me. I try to pace myself by looking at my phone and that is not working. The last few days have been better though, and I almost hit my Water goal yesterday. Have my regular appt on Friday with my primary, let see how that blood work is.

Happy my soft phase is over this week, was feeling a little bored with food even though I was having different things, but I guess it was the cooking method and textured.

Found my sweet spot with food portion, I can have between 1oz to 2oz, but once I go a little over 1.5oz, I start the cues. So now my leftovers are 1.25oz which I know I will be satisfied with.

Had support meeting with nutritionist this week, went well, she answered all the questions we had and more.

Regular texture food stage starts today, but I will stick with fish since I made 2 filets that will be like 3 meals lol. I'm allowed to go up an oz of food if I need to and can handle but I found my happy spot.

I fly out of the country tomorrow, and have packed enough Protein for a week, and will get yogurt to snack on.

Had my 1st primary doc appt on Friday, blood pressure was in the normal range but still need to continue meds until she sees is stable after a few visits, lost over 20lbs since my las visit one week preop, my cholesterol went from 232 to 168 and everything else was in the normal range, even my fasting sugar was 79, when usually is in the 90s. She even checked my incisions to see how they were doing, and she will see me in 3 months to see about the bp and for my labs.

Happy holidays everyone!

Came back from vacation everything went well, made sure I was hydrated, was a little low on Protein on some days but only a few grams. Tried everything I wanted within the parameters of my surgeon and luckily nothing was bad everything went down well, and I stopped when satisfied.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Happy Holidays!!!

I think I have been over on my calories a few days this past week. The head hunger has been very strong and just drinking Water has not been helping. I also get very strong stomach hunger pangs. I am supposed to have 2 meals and 2 shakes rotates 3.5ish hours apart. I have been.getting hungry after afout 2 hours. Im thinking my meals are too small maybe...?

I see my surgeon and nutritionist on the 5th. So I will ask.

How is everyone?

Ughh got a sore throat from the cold front that welcomed me to FL after my vacation, is hard drinking liquid or eating, but making sure I get at least 40oz in including a Protein Shake, Soup and yogurt, honestly Protein is on the back burner until I feel better to drink my liquids.

Hi, checking in on this thread for the first time. I had my VSG on November 14th. The holidays have been tough. But my third-week stall is finally over. Yay 😁 Now back on track!

I was feeling frustrated with myself for "overindulging" on NYE and then gave myself a reality check - "overindulging" meant I ate 5 bites of pizza, 1.5 shrimp, a couple of chips with guacamole, and a piece of tart... over the course of five and a half hours. I'm working on reframing my hang-ups about food and had to remind myself that pre-op I probably would have had at least two full slices of pizza, shrimp, charcuterie, tons of chips, and multiple types of Desserts, and that it's OKAY to have a little bit more than usual on a holiday/special occasion, and that it's not going to mean completely torpedoing my progress.

Hi everyone! had a couple of rough weeks dealing with a cold and a family member in ICU, but we are finally home and I'm back on track with my Protein and fluids. Had to get an IV twice, I was getting leg cramps, but all should be moving towards the goal from now on. I do have a business trip next week but expect to follow plan since I'm now in the stage where I can basically eat up to 4oz of protein, salads, veggies and fruits, of course my intake is less than that, but it gives me variety.

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
