Welcome Scandito!! We can get nervous together!!

I am scheduled for May 1st also... Check out the May 2008 bandsters thread also. All of us "May Flowers" are chatting there!!

You made the right decision!! I too have been overweight all of my life...chubby child, fat bride, etc. My only regret is that I didn't do this 20 yrs ago!!! :crying:

I feel like now I can start living!! With my most recent health issues of diabetes, sleep apnea and undesireable hdl and triglycerides, it is time for me to take action!!!

Welcome to the thread and I hope you post often!!!

I am doing ok. I was filled one week ago and really don't feel too much of a difference. I did for the first day or two. I'm hungry at times with my stomach growling. I started exercising at the gym so I hope it helps. The scale is slow slow slowwwwwwwwww to move.....disappointing. I'm going to try to stay off of it for a week:sneaky:... so lets see if I can do it....

If it doesn't get a little better I will push my next appt (5/24) a little sooner.

:tongue_smilie:

Starbuxqueen: hang in there. If you are following the doc's orders, then you will start to see results.... There are sooooo many successful people and you will be one too!!

I am 110% committed to this journey!! I have been in denial about my weight for a loooonnnnngggg time. I need to not trust my own instincts at the beginning of this journey, but rather follow the doctor's orders to the letter. If I had the discipline to listen to my body, I would not be 100lbs overweight. If I try something that I am not supposed to, I will only be letting myself down. It's time for me to have more respect for myself!!!

We all must be committed to our goals. Post your goals so you can look at them every day. Paste photos around your house of what you want to look like. Studies PROVE that if you establish goals and have visual aids, you are more likely to be successful!!!!

I have an entire closet FULL of smaller clothes. I have picked an outfit that will be my first goal. I have it hanging outside my closet where I can see it. Once I have reached that goal, I will hang another outfit up and work towards it!!!

We can do this!!!!! :biggrin2:

Bandfan1: Great strategies. We don't have sit around waiting for the band to work, we can form plans to help our bands work better.

That is the way to success.

Thanks, Bandfan1.

Great advice. I just started posting photos of myself so I can click and look. I don't have a lot because I refuse to have them taken.

I finally put my scale away. I had it taken away. It will be returned once a week. It is so difficult because I want to know if what I am doing is working. That is kind of funny because my clothes are starting to feel big on me, but because the scale isn't moving I feel like it isn't working. Friday I get to weigh myself. I keep telling myself look how big your clothes are, but I know I will be devastated if that scale is the same!

Hey Shortgal, you are going to be gorgeous for your son's wedding!! You can both be proud of each other on that day!!! Keep up the great progress!!

Starbux Queen: I just returned from Florida. I was at my Mom's house and went through a bunch of old photos. I found a few of myself when I was much thinner. Those are going on the wall!!!!

While I was in Florida I wouldn't let anybody take any pictures of me!! I am just not comfortable looking at myself the way I am now (sad but true!!).

I am going to start a photo gallery of my photo's from pre-surgery to current. I think I will do it monthly. If nothing else, it will give me something to do!!! :blushing:

:confused_smile:Just a quick uppdate to let everyone know that I made it though the surgery. They found a hernia that they repaired and I am having some trouble deep breathing. I hope it is only due to the gas pain not a blood clor or pneumonia. I did not take too much pain meds today as it make me so woozy but wow do I regret it now. I will take it or at least liquid Tylenol during the day on a regular schedule and do lots more walking. I do have some port site pain but it is minor compared to this chest heaviness or gas. I am only one day out of surgery and trying not to get worked up and worried so I hope in another day or so I can report I am doing much better.

Thanks for everyone's well wishes and I will report back in soon.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
