Hello everyone! My name is Janet and I am new here. Just started my 2 week prepping diet this am. Surgery is on the 14th of June in Mexico and I’m having the sleeve done. Any important information y’all have gleaned from your own experience to pass on Would be helpful.

Hello and welcome. And congratulations on your surgery date. The main piece of advice I have to give is not to compare yourself to others. We are all here to cheer you on but your journey will be your own.

Hi and congratulations in advance!
The only things I can suggest for early post op is to avoid weighing yourself too often (can cause anxiety and disappointment) and never compare yourself to anyone else, ever.

Hi Janet I've been rescheduled twice already due to covid cases my 3rd scheduled date is the 27th of June and I think I've now become immune to the excitement and enxiety of the "big day" lol
I'm now just in waiting mode to see if it will happen on the proposed day
Sending you lots of luck and hugs for your surgery day

I’m sorry it has been rescheduled. I guess that’s another reason to go to Mexico. I am an RN and work for a major hospital group…in home health. If I worked for the hospital, they would cover 100%. Since I do home health….they have no bariatric rider so I have to pay cash. I never thought that I would get this far with it. I realize I’ve been on my high Protein low carb diet just 24 hours, but not once did I stop and get a Pepsi or food. I took PB and celery, ate tuna and yogurt throughout the day. The hardest part will be spaghetti and potatoes. I love my Pasta but that’s what has me at 254 pounds. We can all do this. Best of luck to you and keep me updated!

Hi Janet,

Unfortunately here in Australia if you select to go on the public health systems elective surgery waiting list its free! BUT you have to be willing to wait 4/5 years. I waited 5 years and just when my name came up, bang! covid hit the scene, so had another 2 and half years added to the wait time, you can imagine my excitement risen so high and then comes crashing down twice.

I'm too a Pasta person and pataoes oh my lol but my number one go-to had always been crusty bread and butter on top with coffee lol hence why I reached my peak at 240lbs lol Well it's never too late for anything I'm still grateful for our public health system for providing free surgeries for it's citizens (although it's a fair wait lol)

Thank you 🙏

And best of luck to you too🙏🙏

Congrats and welcome! I also had surgery in Mexico (9/21/21) and had a wonderful experience! As others have said - trust the process - don't compare your journey to others - give yourself LOTS of grace and patience. All very valid, valuable pieces of advice. I would also add, find some community! Either here, or if your surgeon has a group of some kind, or some other place (I'm a member of BariNation and freaking LOVE it). Finding a support system is SO important. This is a life long process, you will be a bariatric patient for the rest of your life, so preparing your heart, mind, and body are really important. If you aren't already, maybe consider getting into some counseling to help with the mental & emotional pieces as well. It can be overwhelming at first, but YOU GOT THIS!

Congratulations and welcome! The best advice I can give is to be ready to get up and walk after surgery, use a heating pad for any gas pains (helped tremendously for me), and definitely find a brand of Protein shakes/powder you like. My personal favorites are the Premier Protein brand ( regular chocolate is my favorite) and the vegan OWYN brand (a little pricey but doesnt have that protein after taste).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
